Good! You’ve learnt a valuable lesson here - you’re not a monk.

Not good monk behavior. And he seems so fat too.

There is worse going on in the clergy everywhere. Just have to recognise it.

While I'm not going to argue about monks having iphones and whatever, I do question why he was having private conversations with a women.  That is a big no no.  Even religious conversations one on one with a woman is not allowed.  We all know that Thai Buddhism has fallen a long way from the tree.

The relationship started on Facebook and then the monk gave out his phone number so the woman could add him on the Line application

She then offered to sell him a watch, but he didn't need one.

However, he got tempted by the offer of an iPhone 7 Plus for 10,000 baht.

Not sure why a monk'd be starting a relationship on Facebook and Line?

On the other hand, not desiring a watch is an encouraging sign that he understands the principle of anitcha (impermanence). And this understanding appears to extend further, to sniffing out a good deal on the soon to be obsolete iPhone 7+.

Why was he worried, wasnt his money anyway!

Plenty more trusting villagers lining up to replace the funds for him.

Total disgrace and his activities should be written/reported about not some woman on facebook.

He should regard it as an act of charity, was never his money to start with.

What kind of monk has a smart phone, meets chicks on line, and has that kind of money?

A Thai one of course...

Don't waste time with counting, ask for the two who does not.

He also could just let her keep it and earn religious merit points for it. After all, isn't that exactly what these monks always preach to their followers, namely that detaching oneself from materialism is the greatest merit one can make?

As a Buddhist monk, why is he forging relationships with women over social media anyway? Why does he need an iPhone if he's not supposed to have any earthly possessions apart from his robes and a few other minor accessories? And why the heck is he handling money? Ah, the age-old hypocrisy of religion...

That reminds me of a joke I once heard:

What is the definition of a Catholic priest?

Answer: Someone who spends several years studying at religious seminary so he can make YOU feel bad about doing all those things HE is barred from doing.

3 times the priest called out,

Let fire and thunder fall from the bell tower.

Followed by a whispered

Sorry father, the cat's pissed on the matches.

Another appalling example of Thai Buddhism. Buddhist monks should not have expensive smart phones and personal bank accounts let alone be chatting to women on FB. He should be disrobed.

maybe it wasnt his "personal account" just the temple funds he used personally?

He has broken two of the nissaggiyas, but that's not an offence punishable by being disrobed, he now should perform desana, which most monks do daily anyway.
