I'm a 28 yo American.I have a double entry visa.In a few days it will be 3 months since I entered.I extended one month for 1900 baht in Jomtien. Now,Can I do three 30 day visa runs to Cambodia, then activate my second entry?Get my 3 months from that and then do 3 more runs(since it will have been 6 months since first visa run)?Or does the second entry automatically get activated when I re-enter?If this is the case, then may I still do 3 visa runs after that?

Thanks

That does make some sense IF the visa doesnt expire in the mean time.. Whenever I have had a triple entry they were only good for 6 months.. I kinda assumed a double would have to be used within 4 months..

I have heard of guys who had another entry left asking not to have it stamped saying they were going out of the country in a few days and didnt want to waste it.. This was agreed to but I would also think that its down to the mood of the officer.. Catch one on a bad day and they simply dont listen.

I believe the second entry will get activated. This second entry can be extended by 30 days, giving you a total of 90 days on your second entry. After that you can do 3 entries with 30 day visa exemption stamps, giving you another 90 days.

Please have a look at the validity period on your double entry tourist visa. It could be either 3 months, or 6 months. If it's a 3 month validity, it will close to expiry in which case you had better do your visa run quickly.

Thanks.Mine is valid for 6 months.Did visa run yesterday. The officer said I would get 60 more days on my double entry. Now I'm home and noticing stamp.Expires March 27(went feb 26).Says "TR" on stamp and 60 is written above it.Did he stamp it wrong?

Yes. If you are talking about the rectangular stamp that says "Admitted on 26 FEB 2007 until 27 MAR 2007", the Immigration officer stamped it wrongly.

Look also at the tourist visa stamp in your passport. Did the officer use the second entry of that visa? Did he invalidate the visa with something like a stamp “USED”? If he did not, if you can still use your second entry in future, then you have a visa-exempt-entry stamp for 30 days but in this case this entry stamp should not have the indication “TR 60”. Something is askew and you may want to visit the immigration office to seek clarification.

A visa is used once it is used for the number of entries allowed. Your visa is not longer valid and what you should have is a permitted to stay stamp (small rectangular stamp from the immigration officer) and that is what provides the date you must leave the country. I have never known them to use the word "valid" or "expires". It should say "admitted until" unless there has been a recent change in wording; so am not sure if you used the wrong words or are looking in the wrong place.

In any case you should have received 60 days if your visa second entry was used and you were told you got 60 days so if there is no other stamp with a later date (check other pages) you should visit immigration to get it fixed.

Yes,that stamp.

There is no "used" stamp on the double entry visa. What does"TR 60" mean?Tourist renewal for 60 days? I will go to Jomtien immigration. Thanks

On the entry stamp, next to “Visa class”, the officer indicates the type of visa you have or whether it is a visa-exempt entry. TR stands for tourist visa, the 60 for the number of days the tourist visa allows you to enter (some nationalities get only 30 days on a tourist visa)

Therefore, it seems that with the TR 60 on the entry stamp the officer meant to stamp you in on the basis of your tourist visa and give you 60 days, but then he actually did not invalidate your tourist visa and gave you a 30-day visa-exempt entry. When you go to Immigration to get it corrected they probably will correct it on the basis of the TR 60 indication and change your “admitted until” date to 26 APR 2007 and invalidate the tourist visa.

I see.As he was processing me,I asked if I could get 30 days, and then get my 60,after 2 more trips.I wasn't sure if he understood. He smiled and said I have 2 more months can do 3 trips to cambodia. If I did another visa run in 30 days, since my double entry is valid until may 19,2007 and not stamped,I should still be able to use it then, right? thanks

It is certainly worth asking the Immigration officer, when you go to Jomthien, if he will correct the entry stamp in that sense, i.e. change the TR 60 to the visa-exempt indication. Even less work for the officer.

Good luck!

Sorry, and CAUTION to people on this thread...

Another thread in this same ThaiVisa section right now (by poster named Engrin, "Visa Exempt - Red Stamp") seems to indicate that some Immigration Officers are now not allowing Visa-Exempt border runs by people who have used up a previous tourist visa; and are being told to get a new Tourist visa again (even if they haven't used up 90 days of visa exempt border runs)

Worth studying and observing.

Cheers.

Without more information from poster nothing can be assumed. He admits using visa exempt entry prior to obtaining tourist visa but provides no date breakdown.
