BANGKOK, 23rd December 2018 (NNT) – All 50 districts of Bangkok launched a dust control campaign on Saturday to improve air quality.

Deputy Secretary-General to the Prime Minister for Political Affairs, Puttipong Punnakanta, in his capacity as Government Spokesperson, said the prime minister, General Prayut Chan-o-cha, has instructed the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment, the Ministry of Public Health, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), and related agencies to draft long-terms solutions to air pollution in the capital city.

On Saturday in response to the premier’s concerns, all 50 districts of Bangkok, cleansed roads and sprayed water to add humidity to the air in congested areas. City Hall has also implored the public to avoid burning activities.

Puttipong then asked Bangkokians not to panic about air pollution but advised them to wear a mask when leaving their home.

Several districts of Bangkok on Friday and Saturday were shrouded by a thick haze. The amount of particulate matter in the air was at a hazardous level on Friday, prompting the BMA to introduce dust control measures.

In the meantime, Puttipong asked all to heed the government’s advice and carry on with their daily routine as usual. However, children, the elderly, and those with health problems should stay vigilant to air pollution.

They need to be out catching the fire starters, putting out the fires  heavily fining offenders, providing regular rubbish collection and easy access recycling centers where people can dispose of all and anything safely.

There is also the small problem of millions of vehicles and dust from construction and burnt fields.

Instead of the typically useless imploring, how about arresting and fining/prosecuting anyone found burning during an air pollution crisis?   Nahh.... too much work to do that....

It wouldn't help anyway. I've never seen a country so full of pyromaniacs as Thailand, it's just unbelievable. They simply love to burn stuff, doesn't matter what. I had neighbors in Chiang Mai who, during the burning season and when there was about zero visibility because of the smog, still kept collecting leaves and other organic material in their gardens, put all that in a neat pile and then burnt it every single day. Actually it wouldn't be so bad if they just burnt it, then it would be over and done with in a few minutes, but they just set it alight a bit and then let it smolder and smoke away for hours.

by requesting all Bangkoker's take their free standing fans out in the street and turn them upto No 3 ( or 4 if you've got a 4 speeder ) to blow the stuff away .. And if that don't work try one of those new Dyson turbo jet vacuum cleaner things to hoover it all up .. But they'll probably need a few of those ..

There could well be serious dangers in the polluted Bangkok .  Has anyone read about or heard if there has been an analysis on the atmosphere ?  The diesel fumes alone must be beyond the safety limits . As for wearing those pathetic ill fitting dust masks , they offer next to zero  protection just because they almost all have gaps in them . If fitted correctly they will give particle/dust protection but are uncomfortable to wear for long periods .     The real dangers lie within the gas polluted breathing air and the masks give no protection . Who can be advising Prayut ?
