Trump widens demands in wall standoff, threatens Mexico border closure

So... you're sooo far to the left that even your own party is full of it?

Yet you want people here to believe that your opinions are mainstream?

And that people like me are "far right racists"?

What?

1. You assume too much. Dems are NOT my party.

2. I think it is obvious my opinions are not often discussed in the mainstream media, hence your shock. Although polling indicates my opinions are not that different than a majority of Americans.

3. Good lord. Why would I assume you are a racist?

They should make the wall with Russian collusion, people can't get over that. But big walls work well. The Chinese built one over 2000 years ago and still don't have any Mexicans.

  • I heard on the news this morning there's another caravan forming up, they're putting the number at 15,000 people. This is getting ridiculous. Get ready Tijuana for another invasion. How anyone can not

If Americans stopped buying illegal drugs that would fix one of the problems.   Trump himself has employed illegal immigrants at his businesses, perhaps he could lead by example to fix that

You advocate for illegal aliens, and you do it in a manor that is extremely hardcore.

I have been very clear in stating that there is a gaping need to update immigration policy and upgrade border security... and you interpret that to be “extremely hardcore advocacy for illegal aliens”? Huh? ????

I AM extremely hardcore in my belief that an anachronistic wall is a waste of everyone’s time and money.

Should the headline not be 'Trump has a temper tantrum because he can't get his wall. Threatens biggliest closure ever'

Yep. Posting a link the has nothing to do with your feelings isn't really an argument.

"Argument' should be based upon facts, not feeling or opinions as per trump. Trump has continuously lied to or misinformed the US public, incredibly even in a recent face to face meeting with serving members of the military in Iraq. The report I referred to and suppressed by trump is provided at the link below. If you can, refute the report with empirical data not opinions, do so, otherwise kindly cease your valueless commentary.

The man is an arsebiscuit.

Yes, and Individual-1 doesn't even have the power to carry out that threat. Yes, he is definitely a wannabe dictator but there are still some checks and balances left standing and even more so in a few days when the democrats take over the house. His credibility is less than zero. Here's a good tactic on how to deal with this ridiculous demagogue. Ignore him! I would also suggest ignoring the hard core fans that he still manages to hold on to as well. Their dreadful clown dear leader is not acting in the best interests of the American nation and so his fans aren't either. The majority oppose this madness!

(Headline) --

The best way to force Trump’s hand? Ignore him.

(First three sentences of linked item) --

As Americans watch the federal government remain (partially) shut down and the president lob angry accusations at the opposition, a common response is, “Why can’t they all just sit down and work this out?” It seems like a reasonable question — if this were a different time and we were dealing with a different president. But since Donald Trump is in the White House, everything is more complicated.

That's funny.  His approval rating is still at 50% and that's taken into account the Schumer Shutdown.

How can illegal immigrants become voters, Democrat or Republican?

If they are indeed illegal they don't pay taxes nor are the eligible to vote.

They do pay different sorts of taxes though but you are correct undocumented people can't vote. It's simply race baiting fear mongering to make up lies that democrats support "open borders" and are motivated by getting votes of undocumented people. It didn't work in the midterms and hopefully it won't work going forward. Yes, comprehensive immigration reform is needed, including protections for DACA people and a rational cost effective policy at borders which includes some barriers (as have already existed for a very long time) but no great ego wall of "trump" that is purely a political stunt of a dictator wannabe.

All published data indicates you are 10% higher than polls. 40% approval.

About 38 percent currently on consensus polls.. He's never been as high as 50 percent (excepted right wing shill polls like Rasmussen) and he clearly never will be. All he can do now is desperately cling to his hard core base. That's his entire game. Elected representing a minority of Americans and never bothered to even try to be the president of all of the American people. It's a disgrace.

He thinks he’s a King.  Watch as Republicans are complicit in the rapid fall of the USA on every level.  Shocking he outright lied to the troops on his visit to Iraq

How anyone can not think erecting barriers at strategic locations along the border is a good idea is beyond me. Folks hatred of POTUS is getting in their way of rational thinking.

Indeed... the last invasion nearly brought the country to its knees...

millions of super soldiers from South American nations poured across the border, raping, pillaging and burning large swaths of the southern United States, with the more aggressive raiding parties parenetrating as far as the mason-Dixie line.

Bury your wealth, fill your larders, replenish your armories, lock up your daughters and batten down the hatches, the hoard is returning for another raiding season.

He outrightly lies continuously, so no one should be shocked about it by now.

what is shocking is that people choose to believe the lies.

That has not one iota to do with the "Border Bead Curtain" Definitely a troll comment. Bye - Bye before poppa puts me to bed.

But it was in response to someone who asked if it was unreasonable to say that a certain percentage of crime was committed by illegal immigrants. My comment was just to point out the vacuity of his comment. So no, it wasn't a troll comment. But when you claim a comment is a troll comment when it isn't, you are making a troll comment.

I am seeing an immediate problem with your post. Donald's Great Southern Wall - the topic of this thread - has absolutely nothing to do with "refugees". All the economic migrants, drug smugglers, gang bangers and assorted riff-raff storming the border are not refugees. Whether refugees are even of economic benefit to the host nation is debatable - in Europe it is not the case, but that is mainly due to an over generous welfare system. A system that essentially rewards them to stay home and have as many kids as possible.

Real refugees, those fleeing state persecution and in fear for their lives, can easily prove their case at an embassy close to where they are residing. In most cases there would be no need for them to storm the border. Trump's wall is necessary for security, and thus it will be built.

US law specifically allow undocumented immigrants to claim asylum when they are in the USA.

A lot fail to remember that every wall that has been built including prison walls has been breached at some stage whether it is by going over or digging under. How many people died trying to breach the Berlin Wall? How many people climbed over the Berlin Wall? How many people tunneled under the Berlin Wall. The wall is not the answer. The only successful way to make the border safe is by manpower. Enough Border Patrol officers with the right equipement to physically patrol the full length of the border and that is where the money should be spent and not on this wall.

Visa overstayers are not the same as illegal aliens that cross the southern border unvetted, and the other side of the argument is the drugs, crime, human trafficking, child abuse, that comes almost exclusively through our porous southern border.

Do you have any evidence for these claims? According to the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) the vast majority of the illegal drugs coming into the US come through designated ports of entry at the border "in passenger vehicles with concealed compartments or commingled with legitimate goods on tractor trailers." So building walls along other areas of the border will have no effect on the majority of drug smuggling (though enhancing border security at points of entry would).

On crime, it is a well-established fact that immigrants (including undocumented immigrants) commit less crime than American-born citizens and there is no evidence of widespread human trafficking across the southern border that I've seen. The Center for Migration Studies says that between April and September 2018, there was evidence of 107 "individuals using minors to pose as fake family units." This represented "0.25 percent of all apprehensions of family units on the border during the April-to-September period." Moreover, it was not clear that any of this constituted human trafficking - some people were simply traveling with members of their extended family.

All in all, the numbers of people illegally crossing the US Southern border is at its lowest for decades - and the numbers have been declining since when Obama was still in office, so it can't be claimed that the decline is due to Trump's policies.

In light of this continuing decline, along with the other factors I've already mentioned, I just don't see why building extra sections of wall (or fence, or whatever) is such an urgent and dire need.

Don't forget, many Republicans also oppose more wall-building. Even Trump's newly-appointed acting Chief of Staff, Mick Mulvaney, previously described Trump's views on a border wall and immigration as "simplistic" and "absurd and almost childish."
