Lost Season 3, mid season episode explains how Jack gets his Tat(s) and it happens to be in Phuket, maybe Patong from the looks of it.

Also romances a Thai local who gives him the tats and the meaning behind them. :o

Yeah, I saw that episode last night. My crazed mind was waiting for the other shoe to drop.... Looking for the lady to say something along the lines of "Previously I was a man" :o

I wonder what the US censors would have done with a little nugget like that. :D

Oh and loved the scene when 5 Thai(s) beat the sh*te out of him. Guess stereo-typical view - instead of 1on1, get a beat down from 5. :o

Actually thinking in reference to the Thai lady - was thinking she was working the bar. :D

Just saw the ep, not bad, but I found some things puzzling - like, why did they use Bai Ling, a famous Chinese actress for the role of a typical Thai?? Also, where did they get that kid that even at that young age spoke Thai with a thick accent? Or maybe he was just dubbed...

just caught up on the first two seasons a wee while ago. I'm a fan. But I wanna wait til the box set of 3 comes out to see the whole series in one go. Meantime, I looke forward to hearing more spoilers and goss

No spoilers from me - just interesting that they chose thailand locale as one of the back stories. :D

Chinese? Well thats disappointing - mind you thought she was suspect since accent wasnt quite right, but she was rather fetching. :o

I think, whether right or wrong, along with this being a US produced show, many people cannot tell where most Asian people are from. Recall the Geisha movie was made with the main character being played by a Chinese lady. The somewhat recent Star Trek: Enterprise TV series used a South Korean lady for the role of a Japanese crewperson. I would imagine there are more examples, but these are just off the top of my head.

Bai Ling (she's famous?) could have been used because someone owed her a favor or she owed someone a favor.

okay caught up on S.3 Ep 1-9 last night. Now watching the Phuket episode.

Kid on the beach in first flashback is fat, probably son of someone rich?

Woman, doesnt' strike me as very Phuket-ish, unless Phuket's population has changed so dramaticly in three years I've been away (but, then, it's a flashback of Jacks, so it's placed at least some two three years ago.)

Regardless, she also strikes me as coming from wealth and not very Thai-thai.

Then again, in a previous episode, (or was it earlier this episode? I dunno, just watched nine hours o this....) the lady leading the "others" had read Jack's Tattoo, and it was chinese (though unclear whether it was correct chinese), so if the phuket woman was Thai-chinese it would make a bit more sense.

Ultimately, though, this show has consistently fulfilled all the cliche's about every destination. London, Korea, australia, every location is full of cliche's. Maybe it's what makes the show likeable.

Remembered the "Thailand" episode of LOST , just found this thread! :D

Here is Bai Ling as Archara , the Thai Tattoo Artist / girlfriend in Jack's Phuket flashback in Episode 9 of Season Three,“Stranger in a Strange Land”.

And if you're able to see Youtube, here is a short video of Her about to have sex with Jack !

Not one of the better episodes of season three, in my opinion - even though Bai Ling usually always looks good in anything she's in ( or out of....! )

I didn't like the "Mystic-tattoo-artist-who-dresses-like-a-prostitute-and-cannot-mark-an-outsider-without-his-getting-a-beating" aspect of the flashback though. Pretty lame...

Just a few nitpicks..

I like Bai Ling , but cast as a Thai woman? they should have gotten Nong Nat instead ( she's an actress, right? :D )

Oahu doubling as Phuket?

Chinese characters on Jack's Tatoo instead of Thai, or better yet, some form of mystical Khmer / Pali sanskrit?

Oh well....The Flashback could have been so much better...

By the way, Bai Ling's charcter's name, Achara means the prime regulation of daily life, which is another name for " Dharma " ..... :o

So how is everyone watching these episodes? Is there a cable service that gets it or is there a good place to go in Phuket town or Chalong to get the latest episodes ripped to DVD? Or is there a way to get around the "must be in the U.S." stipulation that ABC puts on its internet videos that I don't know about? I can't stand T.V. and yet somehow I got addicted to this crazy show two years ago! I must have the newest episodes!!! It's like crack... gotta have a fix!!!!! :o

I definitely would not recommend downloading them on the internet as this is illegal. You must wait until the the DVD comes out. BTW series 3 just finished I watched the last episode on Thursday :o
