Thailand, Vietnam to develop 5-year cooperation framework

Thailand and Vietnam have agreed to draft a 5-year strategic cooperation framework to boost mutual trade and investment.

 

On Friday, Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, attended the 3rd Joint Thailand-Vietnam Committee Meeting.

 

The meeting endorsed a proposal to develop the 2019-2023 strategic cooperation blueprint which aims to increase mutual trade between the two nations by 20 billion US dollars over the next three years, promote the import and export of agricultural products, and streamline investment projects.

 

Vietnam voiced its readiness to support Thailand’s Siam Commercial Bank in its quest to open subsidiaries in Vietnam.

 

As for the fisheries sector, Vietnam expressed its interest in learning from Thailand after the European Union removed a yellow card against the Thai fishing industry, thanks to the government’s relentless efforts to tackle illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing.

I'm surprised that the junta didn't insist on a 20-year plan.

It wouldn't matter to Vietnam - it's a permanent one-party system of government.

Yeah, the Thai businesses are very keen on burgeoning Vietnam as a way to expand. But I don't expect tight-a$$ed Thailand to give much in return. Although there is now a Thai distributor of the northerners' Hanoi beer (such as it is).
