Bangkok Marathon Still On Despite Toxic Smog

Well , this will be interesting to see , I guess many of the Western foreign runners will skip the marathon if it's red alert. 

But there are money to be won here so I guess the African runners will go for it anyway.

Not cigarette smoking contest... Cigarette smoking MARATHON!!!

 

Because that's pretty much what people are doing when they breathe in the heavily polluted air that BKK has had almost daily for the past month.  Scientists and medical experts have likened breathing that kind of air to cigarette smoking.

 

So when the PM2.5 levels here get to 60+ micrograms of PM2.5, which they have been frequently of late, that's like the equivalent of every non-smoking man, woman and child breathing that air unfiltered of smoking three cigarettes per day!!!

Seriously, Bangkok should take advantage of the situation and organise a heavy metal festival before the dust settles down! ????

The air quality seemed fine today with fewer cars on the road and most of the factories closed.  I went out for a long hike.
