Popular Post webfact
"You can't live in Thailand" - country becomes hub of "Black Snow" A furious resident at a housing estate in Chonburi has gone online to tell the world that no one can live in Thailand any more. She is livid after making complaints about farmers burning sugar cane fields. She was told that the problem was minor, then the local authority in Na Pa, Muang district did nothing. Now she has posted pictures of her estate including cars covered in what she called "black snow". "Popeye Pornchaitanapum" vented on Facebook as reported by Daily News. She said: "Why do we have to put up with this every day? We've told the municipal authority and they said it was a minor matter and left it at that. Referring to her pictures she said: "Does that look like a minor matter? "This country has black snow. Share the story and tell the world - you can't live in Thailand". Popular Post neeray
Popeye should find herself a political party that is committed to dealing with this ongoing problem and then rally all her friends, community, network, digital skills and all of Thailand together to support that party. And if they win, hold a gun to their head to make sure that they fulfill their election promise. Move fast Popeye, the election is coming soon (maybe). At this very moment here in our out of the way Issan village i cannot breath outside. There are 2 fires burning here, 1 of them is burning rubber or something similar, the air is toxic. 4 1

You are right... this place is getting worse by the year. Now in Chiang Mai the sky looks clear and bright, no smell of burning in the air, but everything get covered in brown / black dust every day... even inside the house with the doors closed. Clean the kitchen worktop, or car, and a few hours later the dust is back. We are all breathing this stuff in every day and night!! When the real burning gets underway its going to be really bad.

I live 80km east of Udon and surrounded by sugar cane which was once rice paddies. The annual burning of rice stubble was bad enough but now it's out of control. Don't hang out your washing and more importantly be careful of the 50/60 year old, under powered, heavily overloaded, Isuzu trucks that find their way out of retirement at this time of year!
Speedo1968
The excuse for burning used to be, to get rid of snakes before the cutters went in ... As I visited numerous farms on business over very many years ( not sugarcane farms ), I often encountered snakes and, was once shown a large python which the workers had caught and were going to sell for meat in the market. See the web link below for some interesting general info about sugarcane. https://sites.google.com/site/sugarcanepm/pre-harvest-burning

KayneKayes
A blatant exaggeration: "You can't live in Thailand"…… This news item is related to the province of Chonburi (and probably confined to only certain parts of the province), out of the total 76 provinces in Thailand.

owl sees all
It is the weather. A decent bit of wind or a few downpours would sort it. Who exactly is in charge of the Thai weather forecasting? Too easy to blame the farmers.

The only area left in Thailand with decent year round air quality is the south around Phuket. The extended rains help a lot but they don't have the cars or the industry and much less burning. Occasional smoke can drift from Malaysia/Indonesia but at at least you don't have to worry about factory pollution like the bkok/chonburi/rayong area.
