Immigration chief Lt Gen Surachate Hakparn revealed that last month he went to Kuala Lumpur to take part in the arrest of 14 Romance Scammers in seven locations in the Malaysian capital.

Four Thais and ten Nigerians were taken into custody.

Four arrests were also made in three places in Thailand, reported INN.

The Lt Gen - known by his moniker of "Big Joke" - said that warrants for the scammers had been issued in Chiang Mai.

On Thursday ten of the suspects were handed over to the Thai authorities at the border in Sadao. INN did not state the nationalities of those handed over to the Thais.

The police operation was described as a joint deal between nations under the "One World One Team" banner.

The Lt Gen was speaking as part of his role in the TACTICS or tech crime task force.

Thaivisa notes that many Thai women in Chiang Mai are thought to have been scammed in recent months.
