pleeeese, pleeese help...I haven't figured out to find and download movies from the internet although some members have made suggestions...I'm looking for classic cinema items rather than popular entertainment. Also, if downloaded onto the laptop c: hard drive is there any way to connect directly to a tv for viewing? How long does a 2 hour movie download take with a typical high spec laptop?

for those that are into films have a look at yesterday's The Observer (UK Sunday weekly) where their film critic Philip French interviews Clint Eastwood...the finest english language film critic interviews the one of the finest american directors presently Oscar nominated for back to back WW2 films...awesome...

I presume you mean films available in the public domain, not copyrighted productions which would be illegal to download... right?

In the past i've used http://www.direct2drive.com/ for downloads, they seem reliable and fairly well priced. They cover all kinds of stuff from games, software through to movies and tv shows. you might wanna try them and see if they have what your looking for.

I haven't happened across any sites that allow me (while in Thailand) to legally download ''classic'' films. Would you tell me where I can do this from please? (Yes, I've UTFSE, but haven't found any that accept payment from Thailand.)

yeah...SE Asia has pariah status when it comes to internet downloads due to widespread piracy...went to renew my Norton Anti-virus in Vietnam last year and couldn't; gotta message that said sumpin' about not recognizing the ISP country of origin...would really be a drag if the quarantine extended to entertainment downloads as well...

Agreed, keep it clean pls.

We cannot discuss BitTorrent clients like Bityrant, uTorrent and free downloading sites like mininova.org and thepiratebay.org and other illegal downloading methods. Nor can we stop you from sending each other PMs, unfortunately.

Probably far cheaper and easier to buy legitimate VCD's or DVD's? Many, many shops sell legitimate VCD's and DVD's. Shouldn't be a problem finding anything here, except for relatively obscure titles and/or with subtitles.

Having said that, I am still trying to find English subs for ด้วยเกล้า after having purchased a legitimate (MGA) VCD.

Suggest the OP do something simple like Google "Download Movies Legally".

lomatopo, why don't you lighten up?...if I googled that then I would get junk from pirates wantin' to unload their junk on the unsuspecting :o ...besides, I'm not wantin' to download kiddeporn (as you probly suspect) I just like films and haven't seen any quality new ones in about 20 years...

Okay, to all you VCD and DVD purchasers, I want a copy of It's a mad mad mad mad mad mad World, and the original Producers and all the WC Fields movies.

check out moviesunlimited.com...I got most of my stuff from them, even the most obscure like Ozu's Tokyo Story, all in videocassette format but I'm sure their entire catalogue is in CD format now...

I believe all of these are legal movie download sites where you pay for use:

http://www.movieflix.com/

http://www.cinemanow.com/

http://www.movielink.com/

http://www.real.com/superpass

I understand (now) that having an IP adress in Thailand can present further obstacles but there are legitimate, legal ways to overcome that challenge.

Tsutaya has hundreds of DVD/VCD rental and sales outlets throughout Thailand

There are many other legal and legitimate DVD/VCD retail outlets here.

There are quite a few legal and legitimate specialized DVD/VCD retail outlets here. There have been several threads here on TV with recommendations. I've purchased rare, legal, hard-to-find DVD's and VCDs in shops in both Fortune/IT mall and MBK including Yasujiro Ozu films like Tokyo Story, Early Summer, Late Spring, Floating Weeds (1959, saw the 1934 version at a film festival) and Good Morning, all in Japanese with English subtitles.

There are many Thailand-based on-line retailers of legal DVDs and VCDs.

I think I've seen those -- legit Thai copies, in English with Thai subtitles, on DVD -- for between 89 and 2-300 baht.

Don't forget the Internet Movie Archive. All movies are older classics that are in the public domain and hence are legal to watch or download. You can either download a smaller file for pc watching or, if you have a large hard drive a bigger file of better quality.

There are Sherlock Holmes films with Basil Rathbone and other delights if you search hard enough. All free.
