Police have arrested eight foreigners and five Thais for allegedly selling fake viagra during a search of 17 locations on Bangkok's Sukhumvit area.

Immigration Bureau chief Lt Gen Surachate Hakpal said the operation took place from late Friday night until early hours of Saturday.

He led economic crime suppression police and tourist police in searches at 17 tourist locations on Sukhumvit Road along with Kevin Harrington, a representative of Pfizer, the makers of the erectile dysfunction drug.

Surachate quoted Harrington as saying that the fake viagra was dangerous as it was made of powder and dangerous chemicals.

The fake viagra was being sold for just Bt200 a box, compared to Bt3,000 for the real drug, Surachate said.

The operation seized 118 fake viagra boxes, 1,667 items of controlled medicine, 396 sex toys and 345 fake brand-name goods, Surachate said.

But Pfizer needs to recover the billions they spent on penis blood flow research.

I was working as a Divemaster in the Caribbean on a boat some years ago, motoring out to a nice dive site. While chatting with the divers, I found out one of them worked for Pfizer. I instantly told him, "You guys really need to bring down the prize of Viagra." He looked me right in the eye with an evil grin on his face and said, "No we don't!"

No, the whole thing is a flop.

The research was actually on alleviating heart blockages and controlling blood pressure, it had nothing to do with ED, until it was, after one of their scientists was testing out the pill and found out for himself. Great story, but I always wonder how long he kept it to himself (and his wife/girlfriend/mistress) before telling anyone else.

It certainly looks like they seized a lot more dildos than they did fake Viagra...

All over BKK, today, police wives and GFs are rejoicing!

Game over, coffers filled. Patent expired.

And the headline is misleading and simplifying again.

I checked the photo and another one on a Thai site.

And most of the stuff is generic drugs, most from India and some even from the Thai production ("Sidegra").
After Viagra patent expired the drugs as such are neither fake nor illegal.

The only obvious fake I recognize is the "Cialis" (a different substance) together with some potentially dangerous "herb"/"natural" stuff.

BUT of course it's still illegal to sell such stuff on the road without license/prescription. Sidegra is cheap but would require a prescription.

I like the look of the guy in the middle... Kind of like, "Hey dude, can you please stop waving that thing in my face!"

Semi-stiff penalty more likely.

Easy to obtain for 200 baht or less, just walk into any pharmacy and ask for it by it's generic name - Mycoxafloppin.

Fake or generic ????? There is a huge difference

Thailand now produces a generic version as well & is approved

I would say "That's not my bag, baby".

Sideagra is dirt cheap here; why does anyone bother.
