Bluetooth Adapter Problem

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a Billionton Bluetooth USB adapter GUBTCR41R-BLT.

It was provided with a CD, and specs say it can be used with Windows XP, 2K, 98 and ME.

I first installed it on my desktop with XP, no problems, working fine.

Then today I wanted to install it on my laptop running W2K. I launched the CD, and while in the driver installing part I get the BSOD:

STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x00000000, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

When I restart the comp, each time I plug in the dongle, same BSOD.

I uninstalled everything, downloaded the latest version of the Toshiba Bluetooth stack, same (BSOD while installing the driver).

I tried windows default driver, same.

Billionton did not answer my mail.

Any idea?

is ur laptop bluetooth enabled? in the US bluetooth capability for a laptop usually is an add-on at extra charge. and here in thailand i've never seen middle range laptops feature it, only top-of-the-line machines.

No, my laptop is not Bluetooth enabled, that's why I bought a USB dongle. Drivers for this USB dongle were causing the BSOD.

I have finally found a solution (not a perfect one though). I have restarted the computer in Safe Mode after a BSOD, updated the drivers asking Windows to let me chose in its list. I've chosen an older one, restarted in standard mode, continued the installation of the Toshiba stack which this time completed without crashing, and now it's nearly Ok.

Nearly because my bluetooth headset receives some sounds (when i play a movie for example), but not others (system sounds) which is a bit annoying.

If someone have a better solution, please tell me.

good u got it to work! partially at least.. to me it just seems bluetooth is not cooked yet.

again as to your situation i would think it's a driver issue.

On my desktop, with Windows XP, Bluetooth works just fine, and I am very satisfied of it.

The problem is that there are only 2 providers for the Bluetooth stack for computers, Toshiba's being widespread, and the installation package rely on the driver included with Windows which is just not working.
