Thai driving: Four car pile up at Songkhla level crossing

Daily News posted a video of what happened at a level crossing in Songkhla.

One car breaks suddenly as the barrier for the crossing is activated then things get progressively worse behind.

The first car following manages to pull up in time but that one is then rear-ended by another and another until all four are damaged.

Daily News who are running a driving awareness campaign called it a warning to drivers.

What's the news here? Happens 100s of times on a daily basis.

Ok, that's a good thing:

"Daily News who are running a driving awareness campaign called it a warning to drivers."

They're using a non-deadly, presumably no injury crash to raise awareness? I'd be going more down the 50 dead people a day angle instead. That's just me though.

I really wish it might have some effect, but sadly I can only assume it's tongue in cheek?

I noticed right at the end of the video clip there were two motorcyclists who ignored the 'no right turn' and 'no U turn' signs, to both perform U turns.

Normal sort of day really...

yes they were all going to run that level crossing , (except one) and wonder why people get killed by trains as said many times they just cannot wait a few minutes, i bet we have all had it especially on sukhumvit road, pattaya, where we cannot cross over on the green as some kin idiot has jumped a red light

Sad when news reporters don't know the difference between breaks and brakes.

In fairness, how are you supposed to see the car in front stopping when there's a mobile phone screen blocking your view?

Ha ha, c'mon!

Isn't there an App that will superimpose your front-facing camera with the soap opera you're watching?

All trying to get across before the barrier is totally down, the first car brakes as he thinks he can't make it, No 2 just stops in time.. 3 & 4  are the usual idiots!

The pickup drivers here still don't realise their vehicles weigh over 2 tons and takes twice the distance for braking compared to a normal sedan.

Some yes but most are shocked and not prepared for a situation where they can’t scare everybody out of the way by not yielding or slowing down. No fallback strategy when flashing lights and blowing the horn doesn’t clear the way.

Most of these idiots like to tailgate thinking they are driving a 10 million baht Ferrari with massive power and braking performance. They don't realize they need to work harder to drive something better than a 800k baht junk.

Thais don’t seem to demonstrate they know the 3-4 sec rule about determining distance behind another car....

anyone who tailgates at speed is driving blind....immediate fool in my book...

Your book of fools could tie in nicely with my now 1,004 unusual and mysterious ways to die here volume 1 ????

You might have thought the video was on x2 before the crash ????

One of the consequences of tailgating (following too close)!
