A female Chinese tourist was rescued after choking on water at Koh Payu, in the middle of the Similan National Park island group, yesterday.

The head of Similan Natioanl Park Ruamsin Manajongjaroen says that national park officers were notified about a Chinese tourist, 63 year old Gou Shifeng, who had got into difficulty whilst swimming at Koh Payu (Seventh Islands) at 1.45pm.

The press was invited to see a 20 men crew saving a helpless Chinese tourist.

so choking on water is the new Thai buzzword for drowning?

Won't be long before this pristine diving area is the next ecological disaster similar to Maya Bay as the Chinese hordes descend upon it.

Good job she was Chinese and not a ferang, otherwise a charge of 'swallowing water with intent to steal' may have been made.

Chinese and water compatibility = food for fish... sorry for thoughts...

Buisness as usual as they continue to destroy that amazing beach...

Even more bizarre given that she was wearing a bouyancy vest. If she had actually shut her mouth she could have saved herself.

Good point

Shouldn't the headline have been "Chinese tourist saved from drowning"?

The news report was going to get out somehow, so better to spin it, making it look more innocuous. Maybe some TAT involvement?
