Police in Thailand's south said that they have now arrested the second of three young men who attacked an American tourist on Koh Phi Phi.

But they are trying to find Stephen Trimble, 25, now believed to be in Koh Pangan. They want him to give evidence so that they can determine if the attackers were also involved in the theft on the beach.

Mr Trimble, from Florida, had put bloodied pictures of himself on Instagram saying that he had tried to help a woman who had her things stolen while out swimming. He was then attacked by three men.

In latest reports from Daily News the chief of the Krabi provincial police Maj-Gen Sakchai Limcharoen had convened a meeting and gone to the island.

He confirmed that the tourist had been drunk and was advised to come back and report the incident the next day by Koh Phi Phi police.

He did not come back and they tried to locate him but he had gone to Koh Pangan, said Maj-Gen Sakchai.

CCTV showed Mr Trimble with a bandage on his left knee and a backpack on his front.

Maj-Gen Sakchai gave the assumed names of the three men involved as Ek, 17, A 18 and B, 20. Ek is in custody.

Koh Phi Phi's Pol Lt-Col Chokedee Mabangyang said later that one more suspect is now in custody.

The Koh Pangan police are trying to find Mr Trimble so that he can help the Koh Phi Phi police ascertain whether the young men arrested and wanted for the attack carried out the theft as well.

Was he drunk when he was supposedly attacked?

They will have to wait until he's sobered up after the full-moon party, apparently that's where he was heading to !!

The guy seems to live his life looking through the bottom of a glass, he might not reognise anyone sober!

If they have one in custody, why still refer to him as Ek? He’s an adult, put his name and photos out there like you did the victim.

Because 17-year-olds aren't adults.

You’re right, the other two are adults. Why hide their names, especially since the 2nd one has been captured too?

Below is Steven Trimble's version of events posted on his Instagram account 11/03/19. Nothing about him being drunk. Shortly after the attack, he approached a policeman, covered in blood, after being attacked by the thief and 2 of his friends with clubs, and the policeman basically offered no help other than telling him to go away and report it to the police station the next day, which he didn't do.
Initially it looked like the police only put in any effort when embarrassed by his story going public on Instagram, with several Thais posting apologies there for what happened.
However, the way it's being reported in the Thai press, it's like the Thai authorities don't quite believe his version of events.
The latest I read in The Thaiger (16/03/19) is that the attackers have admitted to the attack but say it was sparked by him falsely accusing one of them of stealing a tourist's mobile phone and refusing to return it until they forced him to by beating him with some lengths of PVC pipe. They deny stealing anything from the bag.

The police are currently interviewing the American tourist in Koh Phangan.

Instagram Post:
Story Time: a few nights ago on the beach in Phi Phi I stopped a local from stealing some girls purse on the beach. Things quickly went downhill from there!
The girl was in the water and left her things on the sand. A perfect payday for a piece of shit low life thief preying on a tourist.

I see the Thai local approach her belongings and pick up her purse, he rapidly walked into the shadows and began digging through her things. When I yell at him to stop and tell him that is not his bag, he throws it in the bushes and walks away.

2 minutes later he returns with 3 friends all armed with large sticks, a 2x1 piece of wood, and a kayak paddle. They came straight towards me and without hesitation began swinging on me. After about 15 strikes they take off down a dark alley at the at end of the beach.
At this point I’m bleeding heavily from my head, arms, and leg. I walk towards the nearest beach hostel to get some help, and come across a police on his moped. I explain to him what happened and he tells me to come to the station the next day at 10am to tell the police and they will look for the ones who attacked me. SUPER helpful.
Anyways I got a few stitches in my head and a few more in my leg, also partially tore a ligament in my knee, and as you can see my back is a bit bruised and cut up. But I’m still alive and kicking! A few days of rest and I’ll keep on keeping on!

My reason for telling you this is NOT sympathy, but as a warning to anyone who is traveling or plans on traveling. DO NOT leave your shit on the beach without watching it. Some of the locals are scum bags and the police might even be corrupt getting a pay cut from the stolen items. Also be careful at night, especially in these places known for partying, they’re also known for higher crime rates. Be smart, stay in groups when you can, keep your valuables on you.

I had to fight this poor drunk Thai when I was in Thailand a couple years ago. This ar*se got home and tried to hit his sister and her daughter. I pushed the guy and he went flying against the fence. Then he stands up and try to hit his sister again. I throw him to the ground and hold him. His sister and her daughter started to kicked him. His mother shows up and ask me to let him go. It is pathetic to fight a drunk person that can barely stand up. I am not a coward and I felt sorry for this poor guy. She had a small frame and I could have hurt him really bad or even killed him. I felt sorry for his mother, she would miss her drinking partner.

Excellent character assassination. The BIB got to be proud of your work !     I say blame the victim too, why not!

they are obviously looking for a way to discredit the tourist as, of course, you're looking in the face the people that are beating you up with a paddle... As always, mind your own business in this country is the best thing to do, somebody get beaten up, robbed, raped, stabbed... Not my problem.

Because "innocent until proven guilty" is the foundation of the judicial system.

The quick and swift top brass from Krabi getting involved. Wonder why?

1. The offenders are not rich and are without island ‘connections’

2. This went semi viral on social media, anything that ‘tarnishes’ the Thai image, or makes them loss face on the internet.....always prompts a reaction.

They have no problem running the victims full name and photos. Two of the boys already admitted fighting with him.

This is a common theme here.

Two wrongs doesn't make a right. "Innocent until proven guilty" still stands.
