Pattaya Therapuetic Massage: quadratus lumborum

Recommended Posts

Looking for therapeutic Massage specifically for quadratus lumborum issue.  Had a great place to deal with this up in Chiang Mai but now I’ve moved down here (Pratumnak) and need to find a really good THERAPEUTIC massage place; one that seriously understands deep muscle anatomy, and at least knows what the quadratus lumborum is.

There are just way too many massage shops to consider down here so I really need some help finding a good one.

If that "quadratus lumborum" thing is located in the groin area...you should have no problem...????

It is not.  Attached is a illustration.

For anyone curious...especially if you also suffer from asymmetric back pain (only on one side), this deep muscle is one of the most likely causes.

It is particularly the case for those who sit for long periods of time (i.e.: computer work).  It's key diagnostic symptom is usually back pain that is more on one side than the other, or completely absent on the other side.

Not to go into great detail, but this deep muscle "tightens up" due to sitting for long periods of time.  You get an aching sort of pain from it.  The thing that makes it allusive to diagnose is that the pain doesn't occur while you are sitting or when you get up.  The achy feeling will be most prevalent after you have rested (like when you get up first thing in the morning), and then as you move around it will stretch and the discomfort will go away.

The real problem though is that when it gets tightened up like that over time, it's more susceptible to spasms, and if that happens, it can become debilitating pain that can last for days.  The spasms can be triggered by anything without warning, like bending over to pick up something, or getting out of the car.

Does any of this ring a bell for any of you??  If so, the QL may be the culprit.

Since it is a deep muscle, massaging it properly to restore its' elasticity requires specific knowledge of its' anatomy so that the practitioner knows how to get at it , and if done incorrectly (typical Thai massage), it can make things much worse.  If done properly however, the results are fast and IMHO seemingly miraculous!

What really kills me is very few chiropractors even know how to do this, and the only person I found who knew how to handle it was someone with an academic background in therapeutic massage.

Anyway...just hoping some of you kind people can recommend somebody, whether it is Massage or a GOOD chiropractor (even though I'm not sure if there is such as thing as a "good" one (in my experience, anyway).

Here's basic wiki info - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadratus_lumborum_muscle

And here is the illustration:

Just a thought...maybe you can choose a massage lady that will work with you...you the instructor...her the pupil...after a few sessions she should be able to take care of your particular needs...

Thanks for the suggestion but the science and especially the art of therapeutic massage are beyond my comprehension.

In Pattaya it could well be much harder than you think.

Well, I'm beginning to appreciate that by the lack of replies I'm getting.

i couldnt find anyone that could do it without instruction,

i suggest bring one of those long tube-like pillows

(and leave it there)

when you found one with sufficient strength

and willingness to do as told,

lay down on the side with the tube and tell them to stick their fingers

as deep as possible intowards the spine and massage.

take some painkillers before treatment.

laying down flat on your stomach

is never going to cut it,

so if the masseuse insist on that, move on

Unfortunately I doubt if any more than a handful of Pattaya's 'masseuses' will even have a basic massage qualification, let alone the knowledge and experience you are looking for.

Hmm, maybe I should go to Massage school, get certified and make a killing here in Pattaya ????  Up in Chiang Mai there are a couple of prestigious massage schools that even draw international students.  There is a real market for therapeutic massage in Chinag Mai, mainly for sports injuries.  Just hard to imagine such is not the case down here in Pattaya.

Why don’t you try Healthland?

It may take you a few visits to find just the right therapist. You can buy coupon books of (10) visits for a discount.

If you were in BKK then I could recommend a couple.

Probably sound advice for Massage in general but the QL muscle is very tricky to manipulate.  I had a chiropractor who understood the QL and active release techniques but had no idea of what to do with his hands.  When it comes to a top notch therapeutic massage, it's as much an art as a science.  It's not something I can instruct the person to do; they either have what it takes or they don't.

If you know of someone in BKK, let me know.  It doesn't take a lot of visits to fix a QL issue so if that's my only option, I'll do it.

not entirely true, the best massage i got certainly in thailand

and definitely on par with the very best, was my gf.

she didnt have her own idea how it should be done,

she was just following instructions and imagine my

surprise how those tiny fingers could penetrate

straight to the spine.

after a year i could finally go back to the gym,

which hadnt even been a theoretic possibility for 10 years.

to say its painful would be an understatement so do stock up on tramadol and apply generously

half an hour before each treatment.

the body will also need to recover in between so twice a week
