Video: Tai Yai man: I thought the light was green Truck driver: So did I.

Correction. The "Tak-Mae Sot" intersection is near TAK not near Mae Sot. It is a full 85km away from Mae Sot, but just 6km from Tak. Bad reporting without fact checking strikes again. Just like the news about the 2nd Friendship Bridge "opening" on March 19, when that was just an opening ceremony but in fact, the bridge only opens to traffic on April 4th (and even then it is likely only trucks will be allowed to use it for the time being).

  • My thought too. In Thailand they mostly have the lights separated (green arrow) so that a right turn would not come in the way of a straight driving vehicle. "Mostly" with few exceptions.

theres no telling from that cctv who had the right of way,

but the typical case is the pickup thought

a few seconds of red light shouldnt force him

to wait on his turn

the lights at the middle of the intersection have a green arrow instead of a full green light. that's what we see on the video. so it's certain that the truck had a green arrow, which means that oncoming traffic should have had a red light if the lights worked correctly.

It is very clear that the pick up went through on a green light. The truck should have waited before turning right.

the opposite is true if you take into account the configuration of the intersection's lights.

Who knows! It's certainly a genuine accident.  But once again it just seems to me that going through traffic lights at speed is not a good idea regardless.  Even if you are completely in the right, that doesn't protect you if someone makes a mistake, which frequently is the case.

Thats pretty much the crux of it.

Road design in Thailand is notoriously poor. I have inadvertently gone through red-lights in Thailand because I didn't see the red light. Approaching the same junction a second time the car in front of me stopped.... I still didn't see the red light until I noticed it on the other side of the road !!!...

Edit: After watching the video again I see that the traffic light for the Truck is a dedicated right turn light - it was green.

Unless there was an error with the sequence of lights the Pickup went through a red light.

The good news is......................no one was killed/died from the crash (that we know of)! ????

I see a green light (arrow or not?) for the big truck on the center.

I don't see the light for the pickup on the right.
Tell me what YOU have seen.

(have you read the OP and followed the thread?)

Wish I could find the exact location to show clear pictures.

lights.jpg

thanks, i just saw the whole video

and since theres no single indicator for turning right,

its crystal clear the big truck had the right of way and had have for a long time, while the pickup

was just wishing for everyone else to give him right of way even though that window had been long closed.

this type of crime should be punishable with 10 lashes on the testicles with a sturdy rattan

If you travel up Phetburi road from Asoke to the lights at the end of Thong Lor you will see a red arrow for no right turn (into Thong Lor). There are signs to support this but all the arrow does is attract confusion. Its not uncommon at all to see cars waiting for the arrow to turn green (which never happens) and consequently giving up waiting and turning illegally on the red, better off with no red arrow surely

This image is from google maps,  not the accident that happened in the OP.

But with the same two red lights that the pickup must have seen and ignored.
