Two people have died while many others have been injured in three separate bus accidents early this morning around Thailand – two in Nakhon Ratchasima and another in Nakhon Sawan

Just after midnight a truck collided into the back of a bus at an intersection in Krok Phra, Nakhon Sawan, central of Thailand. Two people sustained injuries in that incident.

At 1am, two passengers died after a bus they were travelling in skidded off the road and overturned in Nonsung, Nakhon Ratchasima, in northeast Thailand.

They also can't train drivers properly.....what kind of tourist would come to sit in a thai bus???

They also can't police the roads....

The ones who don’t watch Thai news and don’t understand how deadly the roads and drivers are.

As far as expats are concerned, the poor and ignorant rude buses and vans.

how many accidents like this happen in Europe in a whole year - you could probably count them on one hand

The Authorities in Thailand are either incapable of doing anything about it or have no interest, maybe time to hold the authorities personally responsible because ultimately the buck stops with them - fat chance of that

I will repeat this again - it costs money to enforce safety standards it also requires expertise education and an incentive - all are lacking, as for money they would rather stuff it into their corrupt greedy pockets than spend it on something useful

It really is shameful that this is being allowed to continue - who's "watch" is it - I believe Prawit is the transport minister

Those who are in charge of ensuring safety are considered VIPs, and VIPs do not travel by bus - even on the ludicrously-named VIP buses. So they are not interested.

"a truck collided into the back of a bus".

Another break failure, I suppose.

No, the driver was taking a break with complete success.....

I made a long (18+ hours each way) journey from Chiang Rai to Mukhadan and back this week. 16 hours on a bus ( operated by a reputable outfit) and the last/first leg  of the trip - Nakon Pathon to Mukdaharn - by white van of death, there was no alternative. On both trips I made sure to sit in the middle of the vehicle, seat belts worn.

The bus drivers were fine, and the vehicles clearly had speed limiters fitted; the van drivers obviously had ambitions to be cast in a remake of "Mad Max"!

I choose to sit in the middle because I reckon that is the safest place to be in the event of a collision. I may he wrong - the more knowledgeable will no doubt tell me.

Thai roads are a free-for-all.

The thai officials are happy with it because they can't be bothered to oragnise real driving tuition schools with real instructors & real tests.

Thais don't want driving tuition (it costs money) they want to watch a video, sign a paper pay 500 baht and get on the road.

Police are happy taking fines and allowing drivers to go on their way, without too much interference in peoples daily lives.

It's how they all like it, it's how they want it and acknowledge the consequences of accidents when it goes wrong!

Nothing is ever going to change... just except the roads are a lottery & make up your own mind on how to travel !

Sad, but so true......these people are stuck in the 3rd World, and they like it that way, at least until one of their own family members dies, then its a crisis.

3 bus crashes and only 2 dead.  a mere 66.66% incidence.  they are losing their edge

They must be enjoying better "luck", they may even dangle more amulets from their rear-view mirrors to keep up their good fortune!

You have to wonder how a Mini-Bus (I use that term lightly) driver seems to believe a utility van overloaded with people and belongings is somehow going to stop like a NASCAR driver, especially while tailgating other cars at 120kph on the highway in heavy traffic. Brains said goodbye to these people long ago, the fact that any of these people are allowed to drive on public roads is a national disgrace, especially those who are transporting passengers "professionally???".

The problem with this approach, is that you can't teach common sense.

Hence the reason why I flew domestically any time I could in Thailand this winter.  I for one will not be returning and spending money in Thailand in the future because of the road traffic dangers, (well that's number one on the list anyway). Still in search of a place safe to spend future winters.
