Rumour mill has it that there are red cards at the ready for PTP (25), FFP (18) and just to ensure fairness PPRP (2). Hope this stay as rumour and not excite the citizens too much to do something about it.

Nothing to be surprised of. There are complaints of irregularities in favour of PPT, so they give red cards to the other parties.

Speaking of Red Cards, does anyone know what happens when one is issued?  Are there special elections for those seats or does the second place candidate win by default?

I wonder what Benjamin Disraeli, the author of your quote, would make of this present situation here in Thailand.

correct me if I am wrong, the PM in Thailand has never been picked via a popular vote. It has always been a electoral system. Don't see a need for the EC to keep saying they won by popular vote.

A by-election with the disqualified candidate and party barred from re-entering the poll.

So Future Forward take Pheu Thais 25 seats and Pheu Thai takes Future Forwards 18 seats.

Doesn't solve the problem for the junta and odds are they drop their own 2 seats because of the extra scrutiny that will occur with so few polling booths to monitor next time around.

Outside my local district office in Bangkok, a poster with all the relevant figures (votes for each party, numbers of valid and invalid ballots as well as eligible voters) has been up since shortly after the election. Surely that's the case throughout Thailand, so someone who collects all the data would have had a good overview early on.

That the turnout seems to have jumped from about 65% to about 75% looks very suspicious. I'm curious what the explanation might be.

Results for the lower house's 350 directly elected "constituent seats" showed Pheu Thai with 137 and the Palang Pracharat with 97.

The remaining 150 House of Representatives seats are allocated according to a complex formula involving the total number of votes for each party.

However, parties have been calculating their share of the allocated seats based on partial results, and both Palang Pracharat and Pheu Thai have claimed they have a mandate to form the next government.

So it's a right freaking mess !

One party got the higher votes, another party got more seats, some crazy formula that they can't even agree on is going to give us the next government... JEEZ !

I think the Junta mis-calculated on not getting more votes or more seats, now that the anti-junta has a coalition it's going to be the EC who have the final say, and we all know who owns them !!

Let's just see what happens next in this charade.

George Soros is good in playing this game ... Venezuela, Thailand, Ukraine ... all the same story.

It's actually quite surprising that people [the posters in here] still fall for this stuff.

All opposition parties are sponsored by neoconservative globalists !

It is ALL rigged - on every side of the game !!!

"Official results are not due for weeks, but an opposition "democratic front" said it has attracted enough coalition partners to form a government, while a pro-army party also declared victory and said it would not accept anyone but Mr Prayut as prime minister."

No idea but it certainly is strange that 65% vs almost 75%. Was it the EC who said 65% before ?

Could be cheating, could be the usual Thai incompetence or bad reporting.

or all of the above ..

Their numbers are all over the place, intentional or not. Its not the first time I seen the newspapers and Thai officialdom make many mistakes in what they report. It just does not add up.

Anyway still happy that Prayut has NO majority, I am anti PTP and anti junta.

But I am not against this anti junta coalition certainly not. I hope they can and will form a government. Prayut is at this moment more evil then the PTP.

I'm with you, I am anti junta and anti PTP but would prefer an anti junta coalition with the likes of FFP having enough clout to override the Thaksin nonsense.

well the pro-army might get the little general in as PM - but for how long, can see him doing his block on the first day - throwing the toys and his dummy from his pram when he doesn't get his own way …….

Phalang Pracharat Party PURCHASED the popular vote using Thai Niyom taxpayers funds.

The pro-Thaksin party has a dubious history. I wouldn't trust them especially in villages where they hold sway and the locals' lives are made hell if they don't vote Thaksin.

NO PTP + FFP won popular vote = 14.1m  +++ and they have 255 of the 500 seats and first thing to do?  SACK the 250 unelected bootlickers

Are you suggesting FFP are are Thaksin owned puppet show too? And don't bother about the other parties who might want to join the coalition against the Junta but not want a Thaksin mock government.

Looks like Thakain ain't even the biggest minority anymore!

That would be good providing FFP aren't just another closet Thaksin puppet show.

This time PTP might lead a coalition but will have to keep their coalition partners on board. Just hope that doesn't mean buying them off with tax payers money!

I have a gut feel FFP are not a Thaksin clone.

Wasn't it that MP's voted for a PM? Ergo those with a majority of seats could pick the winner. If supported by coalitions partners to get a majority there'd be some "horse trading" for the position.

This time round they said the senators in the upper house would get a vote too.

But hey, TIT, and rules always seem to be made up as they go along. Just like the numbers! And not just politics.

I guess we have to wait and see if these numbers get revised again; if any elected constituency winners are disqualified and therefore by-elections held; and finally the allocation of party list seats probably based on an algorithm that even Einstein would find hard to fathom.

Happy days!

I hope your're right. Didn't like the way some young members pulled out at one point; and the leaders family have a history with the Shins; although that doesn't mean he will of course.. But other senior FFP members look like they might be independent thinkers.

If PTP do form a coalition government, we'll soon see.

The alternative is for the junta to become the government and then the anti-junta can block every move they propose - that will ensure a short lived parliament and either result in the anti-junta stepping into the position or new elections immediately called.

But who cares, we are only Farangs and so long as staying here doesn't become impossible we will survive.

Of course he is. You conveniently forgetting that the Junta dissolved PTP sister party. What this election did show beyond any doubt, Thaksin is more popular than Prayuth. Something everyone already knew.

A bit of a shambles. But nothing like what's going on in the UK, their government is the laughingstock of the world.
