Last weeks copy of the free BKK magazine had an article on airlines and thats what they said.

Anyone know if its on 747s doing the LHR route? Wont believe it until I see it.

Also, if any of you are full time students or partners are get an international student card from STA travel for 200 Bt in Bkk and you save 6K baht on THAI.

i read the same thing just before i got a flight at xmas but was dissapointed to settle for the standard large screen with a limited view from my seat! i think they have been refitting their 747s on this route and not available on all their planes just yet. If you haven't booked yet i would recommend Eva air ...their 777s have personal entertainment systems in all classes. Generally the same price as thai or cheaper.

Classic. It was the same for the refitting of their business class on B747. It was announced in the magazine, with very nice pictures.

They did it... but very slowly. And began with the route BKK/London. Paris came much later for instance.

flyertalk.com (forum Miles and Points) is usually much better informed and uptodate

AFAIK theyre upgrading the B-747 and BISNIS gets the new sleeperseats (very good, was able to use them due to free upgrade as I am TG/ROP Gold member), but econ its as before: the usual big screens. TG is not Singy or cathay and wont be either.

I seem to remeber it being mentioned in Sawasdee about a year ago that they would supposedly upgrade the whole fleet for sometime in 2007. (probably the end of 2007, I'm guessing)

And, I've flown economy from Tokyo, and they already had the personal TVs in economy.

If anything, this time around, the European flights seem to be the last ones being upgraded. (Maybe because they were expecting to replace some of those 747s with A380s next year - although that's not happening for a few years now...)

It's happening but VERY slowly! First/Business is just about done with some aircraft all the way through. I'd say by the end of 2008 as they have to take the aircraft out of service to do retrofit.

I'm curious about the STA card. Is it 10pct discount? Off all fares?

on a related note i'm debating whether to cash in my points and upgrade to business on my return flight to London. Anyway to tell in advance which flights / aircraft have been refitted with the new sleeper seats? The Thai Airways call centre had no idea....

If you want to be sure you have the sleeper seats you willneed to book a flight ont he new airbus.

The callcentre staff wont know which planes have been refitted and even if they did the flight you are on could have a mechanical faliure and be replaced by another that hadnt been refitted.

Luck of the draw my friend.

i flew from CM to BKK yesterday ...on a 777!! Business had the new sleeper seats. Lots of buttons to play with ;-)

Not sure why they have a brand new planes with personal tv and sleeper seats on a 55min flight while they still take there time to refurbish planes on their longhaul routes !
