Immigration chief Lt-Gen Surachate Hakparn has reportedly told the father of a Thai female jeweler bludgeoned to death last week that the alleged South African murderer will be returned to Thailand by Canadian authorities.

Kusama Reunrit from Kanchanaburi was found dead in a Lat Prao hotel room on March 22nd. Some jewelry was missing while police said they had strong evidence to link the crime to the South African suspect.

He was arrested in Vancouver after he earlier tried and failed to get into Hong Kong

TNAMCOT reported that her father Praphrit Reunrit had thanked Lt-Gen Surachate for his work on the case. Surachate - known as Big Joke for his crime busting exploits - assured the father that the Canadian authorities would send the suspect back.

If he had any concerns he was urged to call the Lt-Gen - he gave him his personal mobile number.

Surachate told the father that the Canadian authorities had told him through their embassy in Bangkok that all legal means would have to be satisfied in Canada.

This meant rescinding the suspect's visa then processing him in line with his human rights.

But they expected him to be deported to Thailand for being a wanted international fugitive.

The process would likely take three months. Jewelry found with the suspect would be returned with him at that time.

Thaivisa notes that no mention was made in the TNA story about possible complications related to Canada sending a suspect back to a country that still has the death sentence on its books for capital murder.

Death penalty is just in this case if he is beyond any doubt, guilty,

give the farther the syringe to administer it, and if he does not want to, commute the murderer to life, I am sure after a couple of years he will be looking for an easy out.

It's one thing saying this to impress the public in a press conference that many will forget - but it's another thing to say it to the father of the victim.

The only promises or assurances an officer of the law should make to the family of a murder victim is that they'll do their very best.

If he fights extradition in Canada it can drag on for many years. Look how long it took to get Saxena back.

I think it was about 15 years, and he was not facing the death penalty.

When you have a very poor human rights record, Canada is probably the last country you wanna be dealing with when getting a criminal sent back.

Protocol - Canada will not extradite, if they are going to ask for the death penalty. Thailand will have to reduce the charge; officially charge him with some other punishment; Life, whateever before the Extradition request will be honored by Canada.
