BANGKOK, 13 April 2019 (NNT) – April 13 is not only Songkran Day but National Elderly Persons Day. The premier called on the people to spend the day bringing happiness to the elderly persons at home.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha called on the people to realize the significance of elderly persons who are virtually pillars of the family and society. For that reason, grandchildren are advised to bring happiness to their grandparents or other elderly persons at home by talking with them, understanding them, dining with them and taking care of their health.

The premier said the government has the policy to take care of elderly persons in full scope and varied aspects by 2021 such as providing a living allowance, hiring elderly persons for jobs, setting up a bank for elderly persons, building a senior complex and taking care of bed-ridden elderly persons.

Department of Elderly Persons Affairs Director General Phraiwan Pholawan said the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security has called on members of the society to realize the significance of elderly persons and reduce violence against them. The young generations are suggested to follow in the footsteps of their elder relatives to help with national development and cultivate themselves. Such approach can raise the values of the elderly persons who can remain as an important force behind national development efforts.

Why is it that this man, so patently inept at anything to do with good governance, is so capable of successful at making me need to run for the sick-bucket?

Is Thailand not known to be the site of touching thoughts, unleashed imagination, unrestrained reverie? Only here could Prayut think of becoming a Premier.

Yes, Lupatria; so sad but probably so true, but mai paen rai . . . as they say in East Lancs.

Unless it's an elderly male farang.  Then Thai people should ask to see the old farang's valid Visa or extension to stay, his current 90 day report receipt, and proof of a TM30 on file.
Those with dementia or showing signs of cognitive decline, being bed-ridden, or house-bound due to frailties should be thoroughly scrutinized as their condition makes them likely candidates for having broken some immigration law.  Should the 'elderly' farang not be able produce these documents, acts confused, or is unresponsive then call immigration enforcement at once - he is no doubt a potential criminal or over-stayer and needs to be detained, questioned, and possibly deported.

Report suspected violations to:
111-BIGJOKE
Stand-by.  That number has been changed.  Now report suspected violations to:
111-ELDERLYOVERSTAY

Happiness to elderly Thai families - those without elderly male foreigners that is.

So you are saying that elderly female foreigners have got it better than the males?

How is that?

i am not sure if you are claiming racial or sexual discrimination.

You must be doing something wrong. The old foreign men usually love it here.

Sorry to hear that you are struggling with those immigration forms. They are pretty simple really, just name, address, passport number and a bank statement.

They have agents who help people who can’t figure it out themselves.
