April 20, 20197 yr I am soon to apply for the yearly extension to my retirement visa. Last year for the first time ever, I turned up at the immigration office and was told I would need a medical certificate to go with all the other paperwork which was all correct. Has anyone had to supply one of these recently? I might add it added 900 Baht to the process because it has to be done at the hospital and a chest xray formed part of the medical, hence the cost, anyhow never mind the cost, it was all the last minute running about that did my head in, especially after me checking with them the previous week as to the current requirement at which time they never mentioned the medical. I am hoping I don't have to do it this time.
April 20, 20197 yr Popular Post Which office is this? And if you don't mind, what is your age? This is disturbing.
April 20, 20197 yr Popular Post A medical certificate is not required according the rules but there are few rogue offices that want one. What office wanted one last year? They are probably the only ones that can inform you if you need one this year.
April 20, 20197 yr 250 baht here in Samui at a local hospital. No chest x-ray required. Done for the last two years. Blood pressure, height , weight, breathe in, breathe out while listening to chest with a stethoscope, and a few questions about lifestyle. Edited April 20, 20197 yr by phetphet
April 20, 20197 yr Popular Post Never been asked for a medical at CM, and I'm 75. Mind you, I think I look a fair bit fitter than some of the fat guts I see there on both sides of the counters.

April 21, 20197 yr Popular Post djeez, when will this sick joke ever end ? maybe they can put a fake MD in immigration, wearing a white coat and you pay em 1000 baht for the service ...
April 21, 20197 yr Popular Post What is required is a "Bai rap rawng paed" which you can get by walking into any clinic where the doctor asks you how you're feeling and checks your pulse. Here in Bangkok, it usually costs between 80 to 150 baht and takes 3 to 5 minutes.
April 21, 20197 yr Sorry, Samui has been doing this for the last 12 years if memory serves me right, but all they are interested in is clear from drugs and STDs, as far as I am aware.

April 21, 20197 yr So what happens if you have high blood pressure or a chest infection, maybe cancer is discovered is the extension refused and booted out?
April 21, 20197 yr Popular Post Hello, Especially do not ask if a medical certificate is required for an OA visa extension. This will encourage immigration services to add, again, a document. It's just the inquisition. (I agree with the very first OA visa application)
April 21, 20197 yr There is no qualifying health standard required to extend permission to stay in Thailand to the end of life so one must ask why it is being asked for. I guess that since Immigration can not act on anything discovered by a medical there must be other reasons for one. Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect
April 21, 20197 yr I did this one time a long time ago. Just handed the doctor 100 Baht and he only did the basic stuff. Height, weight, and blood pressure.
April 21, 20197 yr I got my retirement extension in March in Kanchanaburi. No medical certificate was asked. I'm 61
April 21, 20197 yr Been doing them every year since my first one. 50 baht at the private hospital and not even blood pressure checked! In fact if you get the retirement non OA done in your home country the medical list they require you to check on is so ridiculous, my doctor said if I had just 1 of about half the things on it I could not have walked into the surgery!!!5555

April 21, 20197 yr Popular Post Just give them what they ask for. Simple really. Same with any government office anywhere in the world.

I am also in Kanchanaburi and i have needed the medical certificate last 2 years. I go to the local hospital, wait for a few hours and pay 200 Baht, the doc asks me if I am healthy and have any problems - I say yes, and no and he prints and signs and stamps. I get it about the week before my application, which I do about 30 days before expiry incase another new piece of paper arises. I needed it last November. Edited April 21, 20197 yr by Saltire

For several years at the immigration office I use at koh Samui – which we locals supposed was the only office asking for health check – and still a demand in the updated list with the new financial regulations from this year. When asking for a medical check at a hospital, there are two available options. One is for "work permit" – which include X-rays, and takes most of a day, and cost around 800-900 baht at a governmental hospital – and another for "retirement extension"; the latter is blod pressure, hearth beat rate, weight, a quick doctor's "inspection", including listening to your lungs, and short interview. For the latter we have for years paid 250 baht in private hospitals, where it takes about half an hour all included, like registration and payment. ????
April 21, 20197 yr Popular Post On Samui we have had to provide medical checks for more than 4 years it’s the norm it’s another way of screwing money out of you.

No, not for "retirement extension". This is what a 250 baht retirement extension health check letter looks like (however, I cannot read the "opinion conclusion" stamp in Thai letters, but I did pass my extension for another year)...
April 21, 20197 yr Maybe they got confused with a "B class extension" where I have had to supply a medical certificate for the last 8 years

April 21, 20197 yr Hmmm, might attached my private health cover insurance policy with my next one, ooops, forgot I change to a marriage extension a few years back, probably because of my paranoia, which has paid off ????
April 21, 20197 yr It is also required at Amnat Charoen. Must be done at a government hospital. Cost last year was 500 THB. It is the standard medical certificate required for the initial non-imm O-A visa. Test for leprosy, elephantiasis, drug addiction, 3rd stage syphilis and TB.
