Where in Thailand do you live?

Has the cause of the back pain been diagnosed yet?

How long have you had it?

Please describe it (where on the back; what relievrs it and what seems to make it worse).

I ask because need to figure out if you need to see a spine specialist vs. starting rigjt in with some stretches and exercises.

I live in Bangkok.

It’s only recently flared up so I haven’t had it diagnosed and want to avoid a trip to the doctor’s.

It’s on the left side of my back, right at the bottom of my back and seems to be connected with movement of my leg which inflames it. The pain isn’t sharp but uncomfortable and twinges occasionally.

Try this and let me know if it triggers the pain:

Stand up straight and bend straight forward slowly from your waist. Knees straight. You can reach your hands out to help brace yourself against the wall if necessary. Just want to see if forward bending motion is painful or not.

No, tried that stretch but it doesn’t trigger the pain. It seems to be connected to my leg, almost like it’s a nerve or something. It’s not constant but feels uncomfortable and something is not quite right. Occasionally I’ll get a shooting pain from my lower back down my leg.

Bending forward narrows the space between the discs. That it does not cause a problem is a good sign and suggests this might be either an issue with the iliosacral joint or muscles such as the piriformis muscle (google piriformis syndrome).

I would start with simple stretches .

If any of these stretches stimulate the pain, stop them. And if things worsen despite these stretches you will have to see a doctor. But I think there is a good chance they'll do the trick.

I would suggest 20 repetitions daily.

Thanks *so* much. I’ve done some of these exercises and it’s already feeling better.
