There is set to be a small respite from the sweltering temperatures Thailand has been experiencing during this year’s summer season.

Between 12-15 May, Thailand’s Meteorological Department has warned that summer storms, strong winds and even hail is expected throughout most of the country.

While temperatures will remain, the expected summer storms will make it feel a little cooler, albeit briefly.

The Lower North Northeastern, Central, Eastern and Southern regions, as well as Bangkok are likely to be affected, Met Department said.

Residents have been urged to monitor weather forecasts and prepare for possible damage to property.

Northern provinces, such as Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phrae, Uttaradit, Nan, Phichit, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, Sukhothai, Tak and Kamphaeng Phet, will remain hot with temperatures in the daytime expected to reach between 36-42 C, with only a 30 percent chance of storms.

Northeastern provinces, such as Loei, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, Yasothon, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani face thunderstorms and isolated heavy rain with maximum temperatures between 30-35 C.

Central provinces, Kanchanaburi, Suphan Buri, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Nakhon Sawan, Lop Buri, Sing Buri, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya and Saraburi, forecast thunderstorms, strong winds with maximum temperatures between 34-36 C.

Eastern provinces, Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat, thunderstorms, strong winds, with waves at over 2 metres, maximum temperature 32-36 C.

Southeast provinces, Surat Thani Province Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat where heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast, maximum temperature 31-37 C, wave height between 1-2 metres.

Southwest provinces, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Trang, Krabi and Satun, cloudy with thundershowers and isolated heavy rain. Maximum temperatures 30-31 C. Wave height about 2-3 meters.

Bangkok, hot with thunderstorms, maximum temperature 34-38 C.

Here in Northern BKK our garden has been eagerly awaiting these "summer storms", they were promised a couple of weeks back too.

Apart from some, very welcome, rain last night and plenty of flash and bang (with associated power outage, but no rain) last week we've had zip ????

Well in UT we have had some "nice" rain a few times in the last week.  But I am disappointed to learn that according to this latest advice from the TMD these new storms will avoid Udon Thani.  There must be some sort of roundabout up there in the sky  ????????

Haha where have i read this before? There's been a vast storm cloud over the entire North for about 5 months now and barely a drop of rain.

In Kap Choeng Surin for that past three evenings we have received some much needed relief. The rains have been coming out of Cambodia which we have been missing for the past 2 years. Temps have taken a noticeable drop. Rains form yesterday started about 4 pm and lasted until about 4 am this morning. Two days back had a small cell pass directly over us. We had no major damage a couple panels blown off the barn roof and a couple trees relocated but some neighbors about 300 meters from us have a pancake now and what is left is in my wife paddy's. Btw the recycle man is on site.

Quite a large thunderstorm here in Nonthaburi (Mahasawat) late yesterday afternoon.  The drains had some trouble exiting all the water and our soi in the village was partially flooded for about 30 minutes.  First rain this year and the garden loved it.

here in south suphan yesterday pm there were threatening skies and the high wind before the storm but nothin' doin' yet...we ain't doin' too bad fer water over here...low lying and flat as a pancake... but I ain't no hydrologist...retired and alcoholic, thank you...

I agree, same here in Rayong. I've been hearing about pending rain storms for a while and the most rain we get only serves to raise the humidity before drying out again.

We felt the air change earlier this morning and cumulus clouds started forming after lunch.  Temperature dropped quite a few degrees a half hour ago and we now nave a solid, soaking rain here in North Eastern Lamphun province.
I hope this is a sign of things to come.  The air quality and high temperatures have been downright oppressive this year.  May be time to start working in the garden again.  I hope!

Hahahaha Roundabouts in the skies above Thailand .. Hope the storms are better at using 'em than the pop' are navigating the one's on the ground ..

Hot and humid here in northern Nan province. Have seen some storms over the Laos border to our east last few days but they've been unable to come our way yet. Interesting these storms have tracked south (then dissipated) despite the surface and upper steering winds seemingly being from the south/south west.

Storms over the past week have been extremely isolated in my area. One day, 10 kms away they had hail and roofs ripped off and trees down while we had nothing. On the other hand, another day we had torrential rain for two hours yet less than a km away they were dry. Extraordinary.

I can confirm that that roundabout in the sky  is above my village in UT.   All day those clouds and some are very dark, have just been moving around us.  My wife has a theory that being a Farang with a big mouth, I frighten them away.

Maybe she is right so I have promised not to talk to her for 24 hours to see if it rains. ????

How many of you have a rain gauge?

We have one but the only thing it is collecting so far is dust.

Cha-am area.

Funny how 'most of the country' always seems not to include our bit.     Seems to me Thai weather forecasters are about as reliable as every other 'trade'....useless !
