Disabled Swiss National Dies in Hotel Room

The Dongtan police were called to Jomtien Cozy Inn Hotel on the morning of 6th March about the death of a foreigner in a room on the first floor.

On arrival the team found that the place was serviced apartments for handicapped people. They had well organised facilities ready with wheelchairs and swimming pool for everyone’s convenience.

In the room, the police met Mrs. Yvonne Nussbaum, aged 48, a Swiss National – wife of the deceased, who is slightly blind.

On the bed, the police found the body of Mr. Jurg Ernst Nussbaum, aged 59, also Swiss. It was found that he was handicapped and could not walk since he was 20 years old.

The owner of the hotel stated that Mr. Nussbaum often comes to Thailand and stays there. This visit he has been here for 3 months. There were 15 days left before he had to travel home and his wife arrived just 4 days ago.

Every day the deceased would ask for an electrical chair to go by himself to the beach and nearby areas. He never went too far and returned within half an hour.

With the help of the lady owner of the hotel who could speak German, the police questioned Mrs. Nussbaum who stated that morning her husband got up and went to the bathroom as usual. She became suspicious when he was there too long so called and got no reply. Luckily, he did not lock the door so she opened it to find him lying on his back on the floor. She quickly ran out to ask for help and neighbours helped him onto the bed. Unfortunately he died before the officials arrived to help him.

The only possibility that the police could guess was the man fell and hit his head on the floor. There are no suspicions on the wife and no one entered the room because the surveillance camera showed no one entering.

Mr. Nussbaum’s body was sent for autopsy to find the cause of death and his wife stated that she will stay in Thailand to organize a funeral here because there was no reason to take him home. They have no children there, and she needs more time to deal with what had just happened.
