Beach Road NO-Smoking areas 100K Baht fine?

Featured Replies

Has anyone has ever been fined for smoking cigarettes in the "smoke free" zones on Beach Road?

The picture included shows a dozen+ cigarette butts laying on the ground directly in front of the sign.

100K is an annual salary for an average Thai?  Another comical law in Pattaya, probably instituted to please some upper authority.

It makes me laugh every time I see these signs on Beach Road and someone standing directly next to it smoking a cigarette. TiT.

You could maybe technically argue that the butts where not on the beach but on the footpath/promenade.

Strangely its still perfectly legal to sell cigarettes, light them and inhale the fumes...there is even

(in Thailand) a state owned "Tobacco monopoly"  the governments around the world take huge amounts of tax from smokers..    "filthy and vile" for me would be using the toilet without washing hands then preparing  a customers food while openly picking your nose...ohh and while waiting for customers use tweezers to remove armpit hair.

This has been explained on this forum already. Throwing cigarette butts on the beach is punished up to 100'000B by a general law about "throwing waste in the Nature". They spoke about 2'000B for cigarettes, and I would imagine that 100'000B would be for an industrial company throwing a full truck of waste !...
