BANGKOK, 25 May 2019(NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is excavating sewage pipes and increasing draining capacity to prevent flooding, after the cutting of sewage pipes by a Metro Line construction contractor.

The Deputy Governor of Bangkok, Jakkapan Phiewngam has accompanied officials to inspect a construction site of MRT Blue Line extension project at Bang Pai station, Soi Phetkasem 19/1, Bang Wa station, Bang Kae Market, and a parking facility at Soi Phetkasem 47/1 in Phasi Charoen district, which affects the city’s water drainage capacity along the outbound traffic lanes of Phetkasem Road.

The construction area of the MRT Blue Line extension has been transferred from the BMA to the Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) since 2011, while the contractor Sino-Thai has cut back the sewage system and retention tanks in the area, requiring the installation of 20 new retention tanks which is expected to be completed this month, although it has been progressing behind schedule.

The excavation of sewage pipes had not been performed since 2011. The contractor has started cleaning up the pipes in Bangkok Yai district, and will be expediting progress in Phasi Charoen and Bang Khae district on both sides of the road, spanning a 20-22 kilometer section.

In the meantime, the MRTA, Sino-Thai, and BMA will be working together to prevent and mitigate any flooding. The Department of Public Works; the Department of Drainage and Sewerage; Phasi Charoen, Bang Khae, and Bangkok Yai district offices will be following up on the sewage pipe installation process replacing the ones affected by the Metro Line construction.

This will help restore drainage capacity, while the Department of Drainage and Sewerage will be enhancing the capacity of nine major pumping stations to improve draining speed following floods

Did you hear about the guy accidentally buried alive .?

It was a grave mistake ..

Was he the brother of the toilet attendant who took his holidays at his own convenience?

And here I was, thinking regular inspection was a normal part of the process, not knowing it was noteworthy enough to make the news.

I get disturbed when discussions are being had over drainage and sewage at the same time,  personally I think it would be a good idea to keep them separate
