Hi,

Yeah, I know, not a Ford Everest. Didn't know any different 3 years ago.

Its been great except for a " clunky" change usually in low revs, in low gears (auto box)

I suspected that all that all the electronc "doo dads" were putting too much load on the battery so I changed it for the best heavy duty I could find here, and tried charging and conditioning the battery which seems to improve it for a bit, but it DON'T go away. Is it sensors? Battery overload? Gear oil? I heard another owner has similar problem!

What I need is a good mechanic, with hopefully diagnostics, preferably in Southern Thailand,I live near Chumphon, English speaking would be Great,, or are they as rare as the Rocking Horse preverbial?

I'm ready to lay some serious rubber on the road, and take a look see, at my new home.

Would appreciate a few suggestions ( try to keep em clean)

Thanks, JD

A vehicle battery's primary purpose is to provide cranking power to the starter at start-up.  When the engine is running the voltage and ampere output from the alternator powers most of the electrical components and also keeps the battery charged. Have you ever taken the vehicle to a Ford dealer for a diagnostics check? They may be updates available that might address your complaint.

Is it still under warranty?  If so make sure you don't do anything that would void the warranty.

I've only had my Everest 7 months or so, the new 2L 10gear one, and it has been great.

Have you had any post purchase additions? I had an electric rear hood on a Ute, which slowly drained my battery when  it sat unused. After 3 batteries in 5 years I finally worked it out!!

Low gears kick, 1 to 2 ?

Over 40,000 km ?

it could be resolved by trans fluid change (Recommended by dealer).

I don’t recommend oil change shop unless you are sure that they use only the right fluid for your car (by part number).

You need to ask dealer if they use pump to get all the fluid (including converter) out or they replace only the fluid in the pan (not a perfect way of fluid change).

Hi Guys, Thanks for the prompt returns.

This is a first for me so please forgive errors (Another cherry dropping off the tree)

tweedledee2( I presume no. 2 is the good lady) have been taking my vehicle regularly to Ford  over the 3 years I have had it, I have had it looked at, they just gave me written instruction on how to drive the car! (Ain't language a beautiful thing)

Hey rwill, she ran out of warranty 7 years ago, thanks anyway man.

Raiwairat, thanks man but no new additions, does a very pregnant wife count? (Only joking mate)

The Theory, I think between you and Mr T you have got it right and confirmed what I previously thought.

So I'm buying a new alternator, taking the vehicle to good mechanic I have found, changing the oil in the trans by taking the pan out and cleaning, putting the new alt in, and changing the rear diff oil. What else, maybe get a monk to bless it. ( Sorry, just bit frustrated) Now I got to find out all the legit oils.(Someone wanted my workshop manual more than I did!

Thanks JD

Why a new alternator, all you need is a cheap voltage tester and someone to tickle the go pedal for you....

Exactly, with a voltage tester, if it shows 13.8 volts, it indicates the alternator fine and charging correctly, most modern alternators will produce 13.8 volts at idle speed, unnecessary to Rev engine.

When it comes to a voltage test I switch everything electric on and test at idle. There have been times when the system hasn't charged quite enough at idle and so raising the rpm by just 200 (A friends foot) can bring the system to top charging....

My auto Vigo had the alternator refurbished together with a smaller pulley to speed it up at idle/low rpm...
