Hi All,

I would like some advice and/or experiences on this subject.

I did 3 tourist visa in a row (total of 9 months). It is only for tourism purposes and spending time with friends. I have been back in Europe since a month but thinking about returning to Thailand for an extra month. My question is: Do you think I can re-enter Thailand with an exempt stamp (I am French citizen)?

Thank you

In my opinion, flying direct to Bangkok planning to enter visa exempt, carries a significant risk of a denied entry. You could safely enter by land, but this involves extra time, cost and hassle. Look into flying to Vientiane (flying to Kuala Lumpur and separate flight on to Vientiane from there may be cheapest) and crossing the Friendship Bridge to enter Thailand at Nong Khai.

This sort of question comes up often. The problem is compounded when flying from a long way from bkk such as Europe. If you were refused entry you would be flown back to where the flight originated from (most likely). Personally with history of 9 months continuous I wouldn't wish to risk it.  BritTim has good suggestion. I did quick search from KL>Vientiane and was surprised there were flights for 1000baht direct. Thought it would be more. From there as suggested above you can enter visa exempt at nong khai then either fly udon thani airport to bkk (best) or bus it.

I wouldn't try entering with a Visa Exempt - I would get another Tourist Visa which gives you a better chance of entry but even with that it is very possible that you could face problems if you try to enter via a Airport

As another poster suggested you would be better changing your entry route

I must be very lucky so ... five times a year , under 30 days , for the past 6 years . Stopped once and questioned for 5 mins ..so many stamps .. the guys asked me had I a Thai wife ... I laughed and said oh god no ,she would take all my money . They laughed and said no problem. I asked them what about the next time and they said there is no problem for you . Possible my age , I am over 70  . I wasn’t even asked to show my money or hotel bookings  or return ticket... it was a case of the original immigration officer seeing so many stamps he referred me on to a higher authority.. I think.

Partly luck, partly the fact that you have no long, continuous stays, partly (as you suggest) profiling based on your age.

It is like being a heavy smoker. It is undoubtedly a major risk, but some heavy smokers will experience no severe consequences from their risky behaviour.

There should be no problem. I'm not aware of any rules implicating problems. I'm in Thailand since 3 years regularly. In total about 10  month. Once 5 month in a row, with two border runs and two extensions of stay (visa exempt, not tourist visa).

They are 2 months per entry buy you just extend them at immigration for another 30 days. So u got 90 days in total per entry.

Why post this. The OP was in los 9 months BACK TO BACK. Now month out and wants back visa exempt. How does that compare to your "no problem" recommendation.
