BANGKOK, 7 June 2019 (NNT) - The National Health Security Office (NHSO) has been given approval for a 54-million-baht-budget to procure 100,000 doses of the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine. The doses are expected to arrive in August and won’t affect the government’s national immunization plan.

The Public Health Minister, Clin. Prof. Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, who chairs the NHSO board, said the board recognizes the importance of protecting people’s health and preventing the spread of measles by providing dosess of the MMR vaccine to unvaccinated people in Thailand. The Department of Disease Control, under the Ministry of Public Health, initially requested a budget of 93 million baht to procure doses of the MMR vaccine. The Ministry of Finance approved 54 million baht. The NHSO, with the support of the state-run Rajavithi Hospital, then set aside a budget of 22 million baht to buy 100,000 doses of the vaccine.

Following the NHSO board meeting, the Public Health Minister said the MMR vaccine will be delivered in August this year and the doses will be given to unvaccinated Thai children under seven years of age and people who reside in crowded environments, such as in prisons, military camps, and factories. Clin. Prof. Piyasakol added that the MMR vaccination will not affect the government’s national immunization activities.

expect the autism rate to rise
This link has been definitively disproven.

Rates of autism between vaccinated and unvaccinated children are identical.

Rates of measles, mumps and rubella -- and associated complications -- are not.

Thailand has been administering this vaccine to children routinely for many decades. Nothing new in that.

I can already hear that 32 million baht disappeared quickly.

At my work we can get a flu shot against cost price. Last 2 years it was 100 baht, this year it's 330 baht.

I think it's not the government who rips off  people, but the pharmaceutical industry (well, in this case 555).

As usual anything with numbers in it is incomprehensible....if 100,000 doses costs 22 million, why ask for 93 million? Then what did they do....split the difference to reach 54 million....so the commission is 32 million baht for the procurement. It might have been better to have bought the vaccines for 22 million in the first place and saved all the jiggery pokery.
