Bony protrusion in mouth - Torus Palatinus

Featured Replies

My Thai wife is suffering from bone growth on both her palate and jaw line which is becoming uncomfortable.

Having done research it is a condition termed Torus Palatinus / molaris which is more common in women especially of Asian descent and while not serious in itself can be treated by surgery where it causes discomfort and difficulties eating. I think it is reaching that stage now and am looking for  guidance as to where to find a maxillofacial surgeon to remove the bone growth. We leave near Korat ,Nakhon Ratchasima where we have had reasonable experiences with St. Mary hospital (private) so wonder if that is a good start point. Yanee hospital in Bangkok treated her some years ago for more serious unrelated surgery which is our only other experience.

I am expecting to pay myself for private treatment unless advised /guided otherwise. There is a large government hospital in Phimai were we live that may be an alternative start point, but I’m not shy to pay for the best treatment without of course getting ripped off.

I am doubtful St Mary's would have a maxillofacial surgeon.

Your best bet is KKU University hospital (Srinagarind), they are sure to.

Much appreciated and valued advice -just googled them and seems they are highly regarded specialists in that area. Will contact them about options for going private to avoid queues etc.

As always, good advice and thank you
