Weatherman warns of heavy rains in most parts of Thailand

2019-06-16_TopChart_01.jpg

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) is forecasting more rain today (June 16th) due to a strengthening southwestern monsoon over the Andaman Sea and a low pressure cell covering northern Vietnam, predicting worsening conditions until June 21st as the southwestern monsoon will intensify while southeasterly winds prevail over the northeast.

Isolated heavy rains are forecast to fall over 60-70% of Thailand during the period Jun 16th-21st, warning people in the north, the northeast, the east and the south to beware of heavy rains.

The TMD advised all ships to proceed with caution, and small boats to remain in port as the waves in the Andaman Sea are likely to reach 2-3 meters.

A highly unusual event for the rainy season, must be attributed to Thai meteorological logic perhaps ?

You mean like telling us it will get dark tonight also ????????????????????  . You can always rely on the Thai apologists to justify the obvious

Yeah, shouldn't bother warning of dangerous conditions coming at sea.  Fishermen should just avoid going to sea for the entire rainy season because it's just obvious, right?

This news must be fake because we were told quite categorically by the Meteorological Office that there would be little rain in June and July.

For people who state the most boring reoccuring cliche........”oh rain in the rainy season, who would have guessed”

It doesn’t matter if it’s rainy season. They still need to tell you the upcoming weather!

Yep. The fishermen in uk, as everyone knows, have their own forecast system.

Some people wouldn't be happy until the forecast system mentioned their address and the exact time the rain will start.

TMD have shown that picture for the last 3 weeks but in our little area of Chiangmai we have seen hardly any!

That's because the TMD have only just learnt how to cut and paste, it while take a good will longer for them to learn how to refresh ????

Yep, the cloud and rain symbol has been showing every day for at least 3 weeks.

Maybe people should goodle weathermodificationhistory real quick and find out what's going on ...

Interesting subject and changes how you think about the weather for ever.

Farmers predict the weather pretty  well by observing how the cows hold their tails.

This is the present forecast. What is the weather like?

The "knockers" need to be in the West where they can watch the weather on TV every single day AND they have really nice pictures for them to look at ????

And most in the west think a cold front is what their wife shows when they come home pissed at midnight. ????

Rain mate.

Some posts about TMD today, here one more from me.

We stay in the South and consult the TMD site daily, especially the 'weather radar'.

But it so often fails!

Like today: Suratthani: at 2PM, and still now: last screen from 10.45AM; Chumphon: at 2PM and still now: last screen from 11AM; Krabi: 'no data available'!

Just another bunch of 'officials' no too concerned about doing their job right, may I guess...?

I hope Thai scooter riders read these weather forcasts and bear in mind the underpasses where they can take shelter when the rains come.

Chumphon, Phuket and Narawithat loops all working right now (1530 local).

Try windy.com. It gives a fairly good idea of what's heading your way.

Sorry to have to contradict you dear 'nauseus' but at this time, 17.00 local, Chumphon (and Narathiwat) unchanged, still last screen on TMD's 'Weather Radar' at 11.00 local (04.00UTC), Suratthani unchanged at 03.45UTC = 10.45 local, Krabi: 'no data'...

I have found Ventusky to be a good app, problem in Thailand is rain and storms can be very localized,at my girlfriend house today she told me it rained heavy all night road in very wet,yet at my gaf 30 km away we had hardly anything last night.

If they are stuck again then use Phuket and Sathing Phra. I didn't mention Krabi and Surat Thani before because they were off line. I didn't check the times on the other two but only trying to help. These things get stuck all the time. Although it's a free service, there's always someone who has to complain.

Is this just a tactic to stave off the fears of a major drought? Most of the country rely on agriculture which relies on rain or good management of water and if you got neither of these things it's going to be grim times for many.

West pacific el nino supposed to effect the 2019 typhoon season, so far some forecasts are saying more storms (higher sea temp) and another (Pagasa) is saying less storms, flip a coin.
