Many years ago, I had laser treatment for distance to both eyes. All well and good, but still needed reading glasses. After 5 to 10 years, both eyes regressed – that is, they reverted in part to the original curvature. I had the first eye lasered again, for distance. I was about to get the second eye lasered again, but the doctor (same throughout), suggested I pay a little more money and getting a multi-focal lens implant, so I did. The eye with the lens implant is easily the ‘best eye’, and good for reading and distance. In retrospect, I should have gone directly to lens implants. I didn’t at that time because there were warnings about infection risk, and possibly the lens implants were one focal length. I think that is one good reason to get an implant – good for all distances. With laser you chose distance or reading; plus, a risk of regression. Pay a little more and go for implant, same time eliminating future risk of cataracts. Also, less risk of dry eye with lens implant – I think a cut on one side, rather than a complete cut with laser – loss of lubrication channels? My eye twice lasered needs eye drops first thing in the morning, for the other eye not really needed. One negative, with the lens implant after several years, I had onset of slightly clouded vision. Easily fixed with YAG – a laser procedure to clear muscle debris around or near the implant.
