Does 6 month multiple entry visa require a flight out of thailand?

Featured Replies

I'm not sure how long I'll stay and i'm planning on visit the surrounding countries such as india, cambodia etc. I'll do border runs/extentions until I feel it's time to visit the other areas. I have booked my 1 way ticket. Will immigration be okay with this?

Also on the TM6 arrival card, what do i put on length of stay?

Thank you in advance!

Yes, as long as you don't have a recent long history of staying in the country as a tourist.

60 days as that is the maximum stay the IO can give you.

Thank you very much! Last time I stayed was 2018 from march for 3 months. Does that count as recent?

I doubt it. A short visit over a year ago shouldn't be a problem.

Oh darn, i haven't applied for the visa. Plan to do that tuesday. Should I book a flight same day I apply for visa, and cancel the ticket? and would it be ok to book out of country to a neighboring country? and as sheryl mentioned above, if i cancel the ticket same day will that cause a problem when checking in for the flights?

You can get a low cost one way ticket to any nearby country. Check some the regional low cost carrieres from any airport they fly out from and you can get one for not much more than 1000 baht.

Perfect, i'll do that. Thank you!

I assume you're applying in the US. If so they seem to want an onward flight out of Thailand, but it can be a cheap flight to any country. Once you've received the visa you can cancel the flight as the return flight isn't necessary to check in or, in most cases, enter Thailand. I would buy a cheap ticket and throw it away once in Thailand if you can't use it.

Oh, i should've mentioned, i'm applying from canada but it's usually the same treatment. I'll book a cheap flight out and probably throw it away I guess.

Which Embassy/consulate in Canada?

The Ottawa Embassy website states "A copy of round-trip ticket or itinerary". Round-trip would mean return to Canada. Not sure what they would accept for "itinerary". I'd recommend you call them before you go to find out exactly what's needed. Consular websites aren't always reliable.

Many embassies and consulates have that on their websites but will accept a one way ticket out of the country.

Darn, i just booked a flight to cambodia and i don't think it's refundable. (DMK) to (KOS). It'll be from toronto consulate. I'll give them a call tuesday to see what i have to do.

I also just read that I need to buy a visa upon entry into cambodia and that only Phnom Penh & Siem Reap offer them. Is this true? and given that i'm probably going to not use this flight, do i need to worry about visa?

You can get Cambodian visa on arrival at any border crossing as well as the airports.

You can also get an evisa in advance but it can only be used at I think 2 border crossings (Poipet and Koh Kong) and the airport. Saves a full page in your passport.

Great! Also, I booked a throwaway flight to Sihanoukville (KOS) cambodia, and cambodia requires visa for entry and according to google, you can only get a visa from Phnom Penh & Siem Reap if you plan to get it upon arrival by air. Will this be an issue if i plan to throw it away or just use the ticket as a exit-reentry into thailand by later just booking another flight back same day from that airport to thailand?

Oh perfect, Sihanoukville (KOS) should work then! Thanks!

You seriously do not want to go to Sihanoukville. It has been completely taken over by Chinese. No hotels, restaurants etc left that cater to westerners. Many of the Chinese establishments refuse to serve non Chinese. The beach is polluted..raw sewage dumped by the casinos etc.

The Toronto consulate website suggests they will accept just a flight to Thailand.

I'll probably just throw it away but if i end up using it as a exit and re entry after my 2 months stay in thailand can i just book another flight out right away out of that airport without leaving the airport at all? is there a minimum stay requirement?

Ah I see, i guess i didn't need to book the outgoing flight to get the visa but i guess it can still be used in case i want to just use it as an exit-reentry after the 60 day period.

The websites aren't always reliable and up to date so it's worth calling them first, if applying by post. If you're going to apply in person you can show them the flight to Thailand, and although the onward flight you've already booked would be superfluous based on the website it should satisfy them if they want to see your first planned exit.

In short, yes you will need a ticket out, to be sure if embassy, consulate, airline or Immigration suddenly feel the need to ask for it. You are the one that make a choice of putting yourself on the safe side, with no possibilities for hick-ups. However, it will be perfect with a cheap ticket to a most nearby country, sometimes even with possibility to cancel once you are here.

You're right, better be on the safe side. I booked a cheap flight so i don't mind even if it's not used. It serves its purpose just by reducing or eliminating risk.

You're right a 100%, always good to be safer than sorry. I was just re confirming it can be used as an exit re-entry since i was confused about being able to get a visa from the cambodian airport. Someone answered that question. Thank you for all your help, elviajero!

Sheryl...your confirming what backbacker  brigade have been telling me in Saigon. I haven't been there for several yrs and what I hear is sad tale. The story goes its a deep sea port and a deal was done with Chinese developers and Cambodian govt. Stick a s load of money into it. Develop port ...have your Casino. Build as many hi rise hotels as possible.

Is it as bad as tales I hear?

No, it´s much worse and more horrible! The scene cannot be explained in words, due to that it´s a total nightmare that has to be seen. Been there and will never ever return.

Hi,

Any suggestions for what might be least expensive?

I checked a few, most were upwards of 2000 baht ... Hat Yai/Kuala Lumpur, Mae Hong Son/Yangon, Udon Thani/Vientiane ...

Thanks,

DS
