Taking it slowly allows the N.K. population to adjust their thinking and feel that they are the winners in a potentially win win situation.  They are officially still at war.  The first step needs to be ending the war, then they can accept ending further war prep. missiles etc.  Well played Mr. President.

Right, because a huge concern of the average north korean citizen is to feel that they have come out ahead in the negotiations. Questions about having sufficient food, medical care, and some personal freedom are minor concerns of theirs compared to this.

For Trump haters no matter what he does is ever good enough and they always find a way to turn positive into a negative .

Tomorrow Trump will find cure for cancer , haters will most likely turn it into biggest tragedy ever as world could get over populated

Because he accomplished so much with North Korea. Not long ago Trump lovers were touting that ridiculously vague statement composed at the conclusion of the first summit as a virtual capitulation by the North Koreans on the question of denuclearization. Remember how Trump was being touted as a candidate for the Nobel Prize?

And how is "trade wars are easy to win" Trump faring with the Chinese?

About as well as "Mexico will pay for the wall" is faring with the Mexicans.

So Trump sent Kim a private message saying "Lets upset the Chinese. We both need some concessions from them...."

" US President Donald Trump and China's President Xi Jinping reached agreement at the G20 summit in Japan. Mr Trump also said he would allow US companies to continue to sell to the Chinese tech giant Huawei, in a move seen as a significant concession. Mr Trump had threatened additional trade sanctions on China. "

He confirmed that the US would not be adding tariffs on $300bn worth of Chinese imports

And so, the day after, China Xi let Kim invite Trump to step into North Korea! MAGA

Trump is good, really good. But "good" at creating reality television scenes does not qualify one as a "good" leader of the free world. This was a great photo op (for Kim).

He accomplished a hell lot of more than Obama or anyone before him.

Obama dropped 26000 bombs and he gets a Nobel prize, Trump holds talks with NK and he is an idiot

American personnel including Ambassador gets killed in Libya and oh well, Trump cancels strike on Iran and he is incompetent. idiot.

As for trade war with China, i suggest you educate yourself a little,

"The impact of the trade war [on China’s economy] is definitely negative, and the Chinese leadership at the Politburo meeting may discuss more fiscal spending and introduce more stimulus measures,” Iris Pang, Greater China economist for ING Wholesale Banking, said."

"It is a challenging situation for Beijing to manage and makes China vulnerable in the face of escalating trade hostilities from US President Donald Trump. China’s official manufacturing purchasing managers’ index fell to a five-month low of 51.2 in July"

The ending of the war would lead to better living standards as the military war prep is a huge economic drain... it is important for Kim to save face in the process, Trump is making this happen.  if you didn't have  "T.D.S." you could understand this.

You know something good happened when the angry liberal hornets on this site start hyperventilating and ranting. There are around 6 people here and if I see they are posting something unhappy, I then know the world is better off on that day.

History in the making. An incredible day for Trump and potentially the world at large. His determination can be measured against his predecessor, who didn't go to North Korea, but send retired basketball player and general freak, Dennis Rodman, instead. Seriously, you just can't compare the statesmanship. Cue the awards...

Photo-op in the making, nothing more.  No previous Presidents went to North Korea or met face to face with its leader because none wanted to give the murderous tyrants international respectability.

Obama didn't send Rodman.  Get your facts straight.

What makes you think that North Korea will act any differently or spend any less on the military if the war is officially ended?  Why would they?

The war hasn't officially ended for South Korea either, it hasn't held its economy back.

Another posting consisting of taunts and no solid content. I guess if you've got nothing, this is what you have to resort to.

I guess when you owe the peaceful existence of your country and are totally dependent on the man for your security you give some concessions.

Typical authoritarian mind set on display here. South Korea shouldn't be dependent on one man for its security. That it may well be tells us volumes about the volatility and unreliability of Trump.

I am a tough critic of Trump. Considering this isolated situation kudos for him. But in the overall view of world politics, topics such as relaxation -, disarmament policy and the environment are foreign words für him. In the end, he Is the US American who wants to sell arms.

Hahaha you are funny! I think you do not understand what is going on in NK. The NK Population ? Are you kidding ??

NK has a propaganda machine that intimidates and brain washes their people since 3 generations to the limit. The only information they get are lies and manipulation. Anybody even thinking of disagreeing with the official doctrine disappears into a Concentration Camps never to be seen again! Kim will milk this at home as Trump crawling to him on his knees. The entire Kim criminal enterprise is built on one thing and one thing only - the hatred of the great Satan America.

If they would take that away the Kim family will fall - and Kim is not that stupid not to realize that.

Trump thinks he scored with this photo op - he should think twice - Kim has played him again!

Imagine if a democrat president had done this. It would be top news for a week with breathless admiration and Nobel medals dropping from the clouds.

But it's Trump. The liberals are desperately trying to diminish it or put a negative spin on it.

It's OK though, another win for the right and the uphill climb continues.

Yes so true. The "liberals" are nowadays openly against America succeeding. Filled with hatred, they are trying to sabotage any chance for world peace, presumably to display that Trump is not their president? Quite an incredible situation.

Watching Trump and Kim yesterday was every bit as profound as watching the Berlin wall come down, or the first Challenger space shuttle launch. Just an iconic moment in history, never mind what the liberal mainstream media says.

You don't have to imagine.  Conservative blow-hard Sean Hannity made it clear that "willingness to meet with North Korea is one of the most disturbing displays of Obama’s lack of foreign policy experience." https://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2018/mar/14/blog-posting/hannitys-double-standard-north-korea-trump-and-oba/
