Surin publishes GIS map on its website to provide useful info. to tackle drought

Surin Province publishes the Geographic Information System (GIS) map ratio 1:50,000 on its website to be a source of information to alleviate drought.

Deputy Governor of the Surin Province, Manop Weera-archakul (มานพ วีระอาชากุล) reveals that the Surin Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office has created the map which displays areas affected by drought. The general public can access the map at www.surinpoc.com/CEOWeb/pailanghtm/viewer.htm.

The Deputy Governor adds that apart from the map, the website also has a database of the province’s geographical information including locations of villages and communities, transportation routes, and natural landmarks. It also has information about the number of households in each village which have clean water for consumption or have an access to tap water systems.

Mr Manop says the province will keep updating the map and the database in line with reports on the drought situation.
