Report Maritime Kadiwa Program Boosts Filipino Fishermen's Income and Food Security
Picture courtesy of PNA The maritime extension of the Kadiwa program, a pivotal initiative aimed at directly benefiting Filipino fishermen, is set to continue until the conclusion of President Marcos' term in 2028. This ongoing effort seeks to enhance the income of fishermen, tackle food security challenges, and bolster the country's presence in the West Philippine Sea. Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro confirmed on May 16 that the program will run through 2028, emphasizing its importance in addressing food security. "Yes, so that we can address issues about food security, this is an order from the President," Castro stated. Additionally, she highlighted this as part of the government's strategy to strengthen its presence in the contested waters. The initiative, known as the Kadiwa ng Bagong Bayaning Mangingisda (KBBM), is spearheaded by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). It involves the vessel MV Mamalakaya, which is tasked with purchasing fish directly from fishermen in Bajo de Masincloc. In a recent operation, the program acquired 20.3 tons of fish, aiding approximately 120 fishermen across 11 fishing vessels. By purchasing catches directly from fishermen and delivering them to the fish port, the program ensures fair pricing and market access. Furthermore, the PCG and BFAR provide vital subsidies for fuel and ice, assisting fishermen in managing transport and operational costs. Castro noted that the program will persist until many more fishing vessels are motivated to operate within the nation’s waters. She remarked, "On just its first voyage, the MV Mamalakaya successfully purchased 20 tons of fresh fish from local fishermen. Under KBBM, we are collectively uplifting the dignity of Filipino fishermen while protecting the wealth of our seas for the future of the entire nation." This initiative embodies a comprehensive approach to supporting local fishermen while safeguarding marine resources, aiming for long-term sustainability and prosperity for the fishing communities and the nation. Best way to transfer money to Thailand please?
There doesn't seem to be any way to cut out the small fees in Thailand for the currency conversion and for the incoming wire transfer, but at least from Chase in the US, the worst case scenario is a $40 fee, unless you send more than $5000 or have an account that qualifies for free international wire transfers. The bottom line: it's no big deal. -
