I work in hotel Patong part time before during peak season.

90% of Indians are no problem, like 90% of European, 90% of Russian, 90% of Chinese etc etcๆ

 

Every country have about 10% that we don’t want to come back. Each country make problem little different way.

 

Chinese because noisy and messy. Don’t care the rule. Steal small thing. But spend a lot shopping and for tour.

 

Russian don’t smile much, can only speak Russian. Hard to know if they complain or happy. Confuse the staff. But not too much problem.

 

Indian, there food smell a lot. Big group hard to control but family group is very nice and polite.

 

European bring the sex worker to the hotel. Make other guest uncomfortable Angry drunk and complain. But spend a lot in bar.

 

All groups sometimes a little smelly if not shower.

 

But 90% everyone is no problem, nice , polite, friendly and enjoy the holiday.

 

Every country is welcome to enjoy our culture and country if they polite. Our culture is make you feel welcome and enjoy.

Add a sportsbook and Indians can enjoy betting the 100 million dollars gambling market of cricket while basking in the Phuket Sun. Casinos are the last big frontier for Thailand and their demise.

I honestly believe that when the number of Indians reaches a certain level, not far above their present numbers, all civilized westerners will stop coming here. Between their arrogance, ignorance, and penchant for washing their undies in the hotel swimming pools, the basic fact is they are not big spenders and have a negative effect wherever they appear in numbers ????

I don't really understand how they can be any good for the Thai economy? I mean, how often do you see groups of indians eating in Thai restaurants, spending money in 7elevn, drinking at the local bars, spending money in the local markets, and so on...
from what I have seen, they go to places like Pattaya & Phuket, rent a cheap 500 thb hotel, and share between a group of 5 men, and then share their "fun" for the night too. 

Or maybe i'm just missing something here?

There are millions and millions of middle class Indians who travel, make and spend more than your average western expat/tourist.

They are not staying in a guest-house in soi sexpat, chowing down on the 99 baht breakfast special. Chances are an Indian expat owns the guest-house and the restaurant.

 

My wife does some work for a couple of Indian guys in Pattaya, they are filthy rich, they own hotels, restaurants. I have met and socialised with these people and their visiting friends. The friends stay at 5 star hotels, hire a minivan and driver, a nanny for the kids, they probably spend in a day what a fan room expat spends in a week. You wont see them at 7/11 or on a baht bus or nursing the happy hour beer.

Nope, not middle class and not 3 out of 5. Mostly groups of market traders, stocking up on cheap goods to sell back home. See them on Beach Road every night, groups of 3 or 4 harassing a girl for ages, in order to get a good price for a block booking. They really make my skin crawl (and the girls).

The majority I see are staying in guesthouses/cheap hotels and do sit at a bar with 3 or 4 of them nursing one bottle of water. Their attitude to Thai women is disgusting. YMMV

   With 1.3 billion people, there's an ample stream of 'one visit' tourists.  By the way, I usually only visit places once as a tourist, too--so many other places to go to that I haven't been to yet.

And the topic has to do with anticipation of rich Indian TOURIST taking up the tourism slack not the Indians living and owning businesses. But we know you just wanted us to all know that they allow you to hang out with them. Nice of them to show humility to the less fortunate. ????

Filth rich Indians are an minority visiting Thailand. The 20k baht requirement was made because of all the Indians arriving with as little as 3k baht in their pockets.
