The week that was in Thailand news: The Cradle of Democracy: Put some tikka on the barbie Mr Kumar!

Well, a pretty comprehensive synopsis of the week on ThaiVisa. And so, life goes on (wow profound!). I'm sure there are people in every country doing this exact same thing with what went on in those respective places. Are there any real democracies on this planet (Mark Twain said...if your vote really mattered they wouldn't let you do it)? Don't all societies have cultural oddities from an outsiders point of view? We are here, so naturally we are focused on what's going on here, good and bad. I'm not coming down on Rooster at all. He gave a synopsis of what went down on this board this week and how we reacted to the stories. I often find our comments on the stories much more revealing than the stories themselves (and I certainly include myself in that sphere).

Rooster, your writing is very much in the style of Richard Littlejohn. I believe he is a dyed in the wool Spurs fan too ????

How kind....I think!

Mr Littlejohn turned down a place at public school, after he got a scholarship, because they didn't play football.

Same as me.....though I didn't get a scholarship....

Thanks for your interest in the column and keep reading.

Rooster, there was one small, albeit important, news item that you overlooked, maybe deliberately so as not to annoy the now Mr. P.  He was given, read, praised, and recommended, two books that people should read.  That really amazed me considering he reputedly had read them in a few hours which considering his difficulty in speaking English, one wonders about his capability of reading difficult texts in such a contracted period of time.

'nuf sed.

Reminds me of PM Banharn who claimed in the 1990s to have a degree in French.

A reporter asked him "Comment allez-vous?"

His reply was "Arai wa"

Another great read from you Mr. Rooster, Thanks. I only eat fried rice dishes, Kow Par Gai, is

my usual although Goong and Moo once in a while, I do mostly eat western dishes. With the

help if some friends I have managed to find lots of good places to eat in Bangkok, Jomtien

Beach Pattaya and at Hua Hin.. Still enjoy 2 months escaped from Canadas Winters and Thailand

is still cheap enough, although I may go to Vietnam in the next year or two.

I share your views on Thai food.....I figure the reason Thais smother their food in fish oil, sugar, chillies by the spoonful, etc etc, is to mask the real taste.....

I actually have a fairly long list of food in Thailand that I love but it has to be done how I like it. Particular likes are som tam (Thai style, no dried shrimp and wash the mortar after last use), gaeng masaman, pork ball noodles, a large amount of fruit especially durian, khao man gai, hoi thort (mussel omelette), mangoes on sticky rice with coconut sauce (a top ten world dish), chicken livers on a stick with sticky rice, isaan sausages (sour variety) with raw chili and ginger and salad, bananas in coconut milk, raw mango with chili and sugar, pineapple with chili and sugar, fried fish with the green mango condiment...these are all in the premier league of what I eat.

but my dinner tonight was home made Japanese curry with indian condiments and almond infused rice pudding half khir half British rice pudding. I'm fusion or as the Mrs would say...con-fusion.
