(Reuters) - Britain’s trade minister Liz Truss has said the National Health Service (NHS) would not be put up for sale, as she prepares to discuss a free-trade deal with the U.S. in the next few weeks.

“My main priority now will be agreeing a free-trade deal with the U.S., building on the successful phone call between the Prime Minister and President Trump,” she wrote in a Telegraph column late on Sunday.

“I want to make it clear that that will never mean putting our NHS up for sale,” she wrote.

U.S President Donald Trump had said in June that Britain’s public health service should be on the table in talks about a trade deal between the two countries after Brexit but later backtracked on his comments.

Never, ever trust politicians!

If they are allowed to get away with circumventing the referendum result, they will have even less reason to care about the electorate.

The referendum result was just a piece of advice. Achieved moreover with large scale lies and fraud. Had it been a decision (which it wasn't) it would have been declared null and void because of the fraud. And it should have been anyway had we had a sensible government instead of one intent on cosying up to its extremist minority.

Make sure you first greet Trump with "Your Majesty" and should help set the mood for a good free trade deal.

Maybe a souvenir gift:

NHS may not be up for sale but the Tories will continue to sell it out.

A lot of the NHS has already been sold to Virgincare.  I had the bad luck to be in hospital for 6 months, 4 months under Virgincare.  In those 4 months we would run out of many essentials such as breakfast food and night pots.  Most of the equipment in the gym was broken.  Thats what happens when the NHS/Virgincare is run for profit.

With an additional of GBP 350 million a week from 1 Nov onwards.... of course NHS will never be for sale...

Well that’s what she says before the negotiations start.

Would you believe any of them, any of them?

They'd all sell their own granny if it suited.

All nationalities, all political persuasions. The majority are parasitic scum.

Farage was already planning to move to the US and try and be a fixer and broker for American Health Insurance companies moving into the UK.

Not up for sale - course not. More privatization, outsourcing, private alternatives and increases in private insurance, possible with tax advantages/punishments as incentive?? Well, she only said it wasn't up for sale. Nothing else is off the table.

Yes, Yes, but their KPI's were all met. Their customer satisfaction surveys were, well, probably ignored. Bad reviews put down to moaning patients!

It's been proven over and over again that running a hospital as a profit center is detrimental to the patients. But usually very good for the bank balances of the bureaucrats brought in en mass to ensure effective efficiency!

Going to give it away then... ????
