Hello people,

Is it still possible to obtain a METV from Perth, Australia? I'm a Hungarian citizen. I'd visit Australia for 1-2 weeks on a visitor visa by the end of September.

I just sent an email to the consulate in Perth. I'll wait a few days for an official answer and let you guys know what they say. I just opened this topic to ask for recent experiences. I know that I must show a bank statement of 200,000 THB when applying for the visa.

Thanks in advance, cheers.

As of 15th August 2016 METV will only be issued on a case by case basis, contact consulate before applying.

You misquoted what is on their website.

"Important – As of 15 August 2016, there are strict requirements regarding the issuance of multiple entry non-immigrant visas, which will only be issued on a case by case basis. For further information, please contact us direct to discuss any such application."

That info has nothing to do with a METV.

There’s nothing on their website or application form that says you can’t.

But it does say you need to provide a copy of your VEVO (visa info). Hopefully it is just to check you have a (any) Australian visa, and not that you have a long term visa or that you have the right to work.

Update...

Dear Mr Xxx,

If you will be in Australia on a tourist visa, you are not eligible to apply for a METV in Australia.
We suggest you apply in your home country.

You might want to contact the consulate in Melbourne. The have done them for those with only a visa entry before.

Luckily the distance between Perth and Melbourne is only about 2700 km, well worth the little detour for a coveted METV...

Yes I am contacting Melbourne.

The Melbourne Consulate seem to be a law unto themselves. The METV requirements state that non-Australian citizens must produce evidence of their electronic visa; the other consulates state that residents who are not Australian citizens must produce evidence of their visa status (non-residents are only eligible for SETV). Melbourne will also accept a credit card statement showing 200,000 baht credit availability as well as what the others require which is cash in a bank account; the others won't accept a credit card statement
