In regard to proving an outbound flight when applying for a 60 day SETV, can you pick a date that is 90 days from visa issuance date (if you intend to apply for a 30 day extension at then end of 60 days), or will consulate want to see a date that is no longer than 60 days from visa issuance date?

That will depend on the consulate, you probably won't get a good answer unless you post where you plan to apply.

OP, this answer from Caldera is correct. If you have to apply somewhere where they were insisting on flight within the 60days you could purchase flight on the spot. Cheapest throw away ticket. Some folk will point you to "rent a flight" sites.

Thanks; actually that's what I decided.  I'll purchase a throwaway ticket dated for 90 days and then if I have a problem I'll buy one on the spot for 60 days.  You can get the throwaway tickets from skyscanner for as cheap as 700-1,000 baht.

Just a tip about throwaway tickets, in case someone reads this and doesn't know...you can use Skyscanner travel search site or app to locate the cheapest ticket by simply entering "Thailand" as the origin, and entering "anywhere" for destination, and the app will find all routes originating from within Thailand to everywhere, sorted in ascending price.  I got a throwaway ticket on Nok Air to Singapore for only 800 baht last time I used it that way.  I know of no other travel search engine that allows you to do that.  Pretty cool ????

IMO, Skyscanner is the best of all flight search engines for finding the absolute lowest price for flights everywhere.

As for "renting" tickets, I never trusted that option.  Besides it just seems unscrupulous.

If I'm not wrong, theoretically, the IO can refuse to give you the 30 days extention without the need of explaining why.

They won't in this case.

I got a 60 tourist visa with a return date 6 months later in Canada. I also got a tourist visa in Malaysia with a return date 90 days. Done this a few times and never have a problem.
