Why not ask the <deleted> farang yourself.....he’s in front of you!

Yup. True story though.  I slumped further in my chair, all I could see was the top of her head and eyes peering over her computer monitor at me.  It was funny and annoying at the same time.  Bit like Thailand overall.

I have lived and worked in China 3 times..........they have the same thing.........you are supposed to check in with the local policestation within 24 hrs of landing.   And their enforcement is significantlystricter than Thailand

It happens all the time in all sorts of situations, and I agree, sometimes amusing and often really annoying.

From what I have read it is pressure from certain Western nations who are worried about terrorist payback that is forcing Thailand to enforce this law for all farang, not just those who stay in hotels.  The same tracking happens with our money hence the need to declare the purpose of our money transfers.

Thailand has a long history of being a place where you can pay to hide.

Please dont ask for a source, there are several and I forget.  Do a google yourself if you doubt it.

What a load of totally unsubstantiated nonsense.

Hot sheet or love motels have never been part of this immigration fiasco regardless of which way your bed mate swings.

No need to fill a TM 30 in China, but as tourist (and not staying in a hotel),you have to register at a local police station within 24hrs. I missed it last time and my friend living there got a hectic phone call from his office, that we have to go there NOW. A few police officers knocked at his condo 26hrs after my arrival, but we weren`t there ????

If I would have failed to go there, I would`ve been blacklisted to enter the country the next time. So while it just for tourists, we should be happy they are still far from that stage in Thailand.

China is way more easy compared to here. Yes, if not staying at a hotel you must visit the local BIB within 24hrs but, that's the rule. It's easy to do and only takes 15 minutes. When l lived in China, l saw immigration twice on application, 30 minutes each time. I traveled around a bit and even left the country and came back...... NO reporting necessary!!!!

another bit of modernity thailand could copy from the chinese...

long-stay extensions.  here the extension for reason of marriage or retirement requires an additional re-entry permit to keep the extension alive if outside the country.  just a bit of unnecessary nonsense.  fine, raise the price of the visa extension, cut the wait at immigration in half.

in china you get a residence permit within 30 days of entry for a specified duration which also allows unlimited exit/reentry during the validity period.
