You could well be right about the UK punching above its weight but right now it's punch drunk with all the BS from Brexiters. Thinking that the EU will collapse is looking into a very wonky crystal ball.

This is a typical cowardly act by Johnson who, despite all his rhetoric has never come up with his 'technical' solution to the backstop. Obviously he hasn't one so has to resort to an anti-democratic effort to try to steamroller his no-deal through. Hypocritical no-deal Brexiters applaud his non-democratic action while paying lip service to the original vote, which was democratic but had no no-deal mandate.

Would that be the same cowardly act that John Major previously carried out when he prorogued parliament?

Only difference here is circumstances, this prologue is slightly longer but still legal.

The EU is doing it's usual default setting however I for one don't think it will collapse however it will continue to face struggles without reform.

Yeah right. Boris holds all the cards. Pure genius.

Just watch and see.

Let us know in a few weeks how many trumps he comes up with.

Irish troubles re-starting. Congress blocking US UK Trade deal to support Ireland. EU refusing trade talks until the 39 billion GBP coughed up. Corbyn and Tory rebels bringing a vote of no confidence. Sound great.

So, what if they do call for a vote of no confidence? Vote of no confidence successful, the PM steps down, calls for a GE and closes down Parliament for a couple of weeks.

\_(ツ)_/¯

Brexiteer logic;

Parliament is sovereign, not any individual nor Brussels; unless that individual is Boris Johnson!

MPs being allowed to vote against Brexit with May's deal is a good thing; MPs being allowed to vote against Johnson's no deal Brexit is a bad thing!

Both legal, and both done for the same reason; to stop MPs discussing and voting on an issue the PM doesn't want them to. For Major it was the cash for questions scandal.

Major Prorogued Parliament on 21st March 1997, on 1st May 1997 he lost the General Election.

When Charles I prorogued Parliament in 1628 he eventually lost his head; literally!

I doubt Boris will suffer the same fate as Charles I, but could very easily suffer that of Major.

BTW, many Boris supporters are saying that due to the conference season this prorogation is actually only for three days. In which case one has to wonder why bother at all!

Couldn't have anything to do with the call by some to postpone the party conferences until this is all settled, could it?

The thing is, parliament gave the decision to the people by voting in favour of an in/out referendum in 2016. A referendum that Cameron made absolutely clear would be binding.

More than 3 years later MPs are still trying to delay / reverse that decision, and Boris is trying to put an end to their disgraceful behaviour.

Yes, Parliament is sovereign most of the time.  But if they hand the power to the people by giving them a referendum, they need to accept the outcome and deliver it!

Is the suspension of parliament a Weimar moment for Britain? It sounds dramatic. But that is the judgment of Richard Evans. one of the country's most distinguished historians.

https://www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/magazine/britain-prorouging-boris-johnson-parliament-suspension-richard-evans-weimar

Weimar warns us about what happens when politicians give up on their own parliaments

The Weimar Republic was a failed democracy, but in the 21st century, democracies fail in different ways, we can’t expect a direct re-run. But there are certainly echoes, even if they are not yet audible to most voters. By the time we hear them, we may no longer be in a position to do anything about it.

Weasel words from you do not make the facts disappear

If you cannot accept what happened in the referendum that is your problem.

Reality speaks otherwise.

The reality will only speak if a second referendum/confirmatory vote is called. That's the only way to judge if Stupooey or you are right. Bring it on. Let the people decide. 555

Now that has to be the most ridiculous statement I have heard. Public opinion for the queen is at an all time high. Sadly just some Bolsheviks and Republicans are in a minority but like a stinking bad apple in a barrel you can smell the effect.

Even in Farage is right about Johnson the damage is done. Leaving the EU is destined. If Johnson does fudge it then the rise of the Brexit party will be phenomenal IMHO.

I think Farage has stated this, to ensure Johnson keeps to his word.

If only the EU egotistical side could see that they would be best to let the UK leave. The constant trying to keep the UK in, has never worked and won't work.

I can see this is the remainers last chance of trying to thwart the democratic result of 2016. How ironic they go on about democracy but only when it suits them.

After the 31st October bring on a GE and lets see how many get the boot, from their constituents.

Strange people these Brits.... ????

Just the government enacting on a referendum. By the way what about your country and referendums? They just tell them to vote again. You have the audacity to say the UK hasn't improved. It is miles ahead of Ireland and you know it.

Typical Brexiteer statement. Big on jingoistic rhetoric, low on facts.

It's actually at an all time low. Apart from betraying her own parliament to appease the Eton toffs she's also got the matter of her son going with 16 and 17 year old hookers to contend with.

No more hiding behind the Union Jack, she's shown her true colours.

Well it clearly shows besides your ridiculous statement and that you just say any old nonsense. No doubt your arrogance will try and pick at the newspaper, the date or the context, as you usually do.

I will say it again the Queen is more popular now than ever and your statement like the things you write are made up and nonsensical.

Reality speaks otherwise.

I think we are at cross-purposes here. It was you who plastered the word 'lies' all over the screen for at least the fiftieth time (do you not remember when you post things?), but I was agreeing with you that some would appear to be lies in hindsight (a wonderful thing, as someone pointed out earlier).

What surprised me is that you believed them in the first place. As I pointed out earlier, Cameron's remarks were aimed at Farage rather than the general public, who he assumed would go along with him. Of course, when he realised what a pig's ear he had made, he immediately resigned, taking his words and promises with him. May's manifesto set out the initial bargaining position and made it clear that compromises would have to be made, so maybe over-optimism rather than lies.

If you are worried about lies from Tory PMs, just wait until the present incumbent gets started!

Weasel words? I don't think so, I have been very straightforward in my assessments.

He is Dominic Cummings not Boris the buffoon. Cummings has never been a member of a political party and has always prostituted himself by working for whoever will pay him a wage. Also speaks Russian and is a fan of all things Russia.

Again, pre Brexit and well pre her betrayal of parliament.

If you took a census now, I really don't think it would be much different.

Most people understand that she has to rubber-stamp whatever is put in front of her.

If she starts showing bias, that will be a sure way for her popularity to wane.
