Health Minister allegedly duped by bureaucrats into delisting hemp as Category 5 drug

Weed-Hemp2.png

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul appears to have been duped by some bureaucrats who managed to persuade him to approve a ministerial announcement delisting hemp, hemp extracts and hemp seed from the Category 5 narcotic drug list, making it possible for the substances to be used in food, cosmetics and medicines.

Thailand’s famous “song for life” rocker Add Carabao said in his Facebook post on Sunday that he and civic groups, which have been campaigning for the legalization of medical cannabis, were puzzled and worried by the ministerial announcement.

Under the announcement, hemp extracts, such as pure CBD, products mixed with CBD and less than 0.2 percent of THC, can be used in the production of modern and traditional medicines, while hemp seed, hemp seed oil and hemp seed extracts can be used in the food and cosmetic industries.

Hemp, its extracts and hemp seed now delisted from Category 5 drug list

Weed-Hemp.png

The Ministry of Public Health has issued a ministerial announcement to delist hemp extracts, hemp and parts of the hemp plant from the list of Category 5 narcotic drugs to make it possible for the substances to be used in food, cosmetics and medicines.

Under the announcement hemp extracts, such as pure CBD, products mixed with CBD and less than 0.2% of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), can be used in the production of modern or traditional medicines, while hemp seed, hemp seed oil and hemp seed extract can be used in the food and cosmetic industries.

In the first five years following delisting, hemp and parts of the hemp plant, such as hemp seed, products made using these substances are meant for local consumption in order to promote local producers.

Fake news. Anutin was not duped, his aim is to bring the Thai Law on hemp almost in line with the U.S. where they even allow less than 0.3% THC. Already there are companies who are growing medical canabis and are ready to manufacture food containing hemp extracts. All will be subject to strict control and licenced.

A bit confused why this is a bad thing.

Why is Add Carabao concerned, is this not a step in the right direction?

'Duped' is a new euphemism for 'bribed'?   Good move anyway - looking forward to a few more delistings.

you couldn't make this stuff up if you tried

I suspect he is concerned they may now move away from legalising it.

Drugs in food would be a worry for recovered addicts like myself.

Minister is missing out on a possible Thai export:

Importation of Hemp Seeds from Countries other than Canada

Hemp seeds may be imported into the United States from countries other than Canada if accompanied by: 1.) a phytosanitary certificate from the exporting country’s national plant protection organization to verify the origin of the seeds and confirm that no plant pests are detected.

The funny and ironic thing is, that at the foot of this thread on my screen, I have a ton of hemp products being advertised to me in the ad space ????

Because he obviously is all for legalisation of medical cannabis, that can treat and help those who are in need of it. Countries that still punish and prevent it's people from having access to such a plant, are living in the dark times. He has half a brain and can see it's a far more positive move than a negative one, to allow at the very least medical CBD and cannabis oil to be accessible.

Let's ask the Fake News Department - they need "practice" before the official launch.

Don't worry - they're not talking about coke or heroin.
