Well you should have insurance, which will eventually become compulsory anyway.

I have insurance and pay nada, zero, zilch for treatment at a top tier hospital. Some public hospitals don't even treat foreigners...

Well, thanks for telling me how to live my life ...

You may pay zilch, nada etc, AT THE HOSPITAL, but you are paying through the nose beforehand by buying insurance, which is just really a bet and only enriches the insurance companies.  More fool you.

Those of us from a country which cares for its citizens and provides free healthcare at the point of use (albeit paid for from salary) don't need to worry about things like health insurance.

Ok so a Thai person living in the UK should not be getting Free health care as they do and in fact they should be paying twice the price of an English person for the same service? Correct?

If a Thai is living in the UK on indefinite leave, he/she would have had to pay an NHS contribution as part of the process.  I think it is (or was a few years ago) £600.

Then h'd get the same health care as a UK born person, so your attempt at muddling the facts is wrong.

THEY DONT WANT US  TIME TO MOVE ON GUYS

It's not a matter of "wanting us". The foerigners living here are such a small number that we could all disappear to tomorrow and the economy (Ok, Pattaya bars may be empty), will still go along as before. They prefer tourists who come an spend a lot of money and then <deleted> off.

I’m free. One of the benefits of marrying a government employee

Well its not FULLY free, but a substantial amount can be claimed back. Paid 2000 baht for a CT scan - normal price was 12-15000 baht if I recall. Never bother with private hospitals here. As my wife is Nursign college director she can usually has contacts so we can find a good specialist. Good doctors usually have long waiting lists too.

this information comes directly from the BIPCIS immigration report

Good luck with that one. At pattaya city hospital treatments are very poor and doctors do a lot of wrong conclusions, thank God I don't need to pay anything but still its annoying to go several time with the same problem to ptt city hospital.

Not so funniest part was Wednesday I get to ptt city hospital because I had Dengue fever 3 weeks ago and last thing doctor said was that if I have any skin problems I need to go back. And I get them so I went to hospital and the doctor said I have syphilis and I said <deleted> can not have. But she insisted that we take blood test and that we did. After 3 hour I went to doctor again to check the results, there was another lady doctor and she was looking in to computer, I saw her eyes that she had hard times to tell something, so I just told her this ain't syphilis isn't it? And she say yes it's not, but she didn't know what's wrong and just says to me that it will disappear with the time.... right.

So again, good luck with ptt city hospital when you need to pay double or even triple payments.

In Europe, in places like Budapest, Hungary and others, an MRI for one segment costs about 150 euro full price, no insurance. That would be 5,000 baht currently. And good quality service.

Full body MRI maybe 425 euro (slightly less than x3).

Other places I got MRI with discount coupon for as low as 75 euro (not in Hungary though). All this is for uninsured. And quick service (2-3 days waiting time for regular price, maybe a week on discounts).

Insured in the public system it's free (or low priced), one month wait, done in the private system.

I don't really see how Thai hospitals are cheap. Medical tourism and all that. Maybe compared to the US, that is.

When I hear 10-12K baht for an MRI, I start laughing.

PS: All prices above are in the private system (clinics / hospitals).

I think the MAJORITY of guys here (most of them with no desire to visit this forum) would not admit what you have written because for them live here is STILL very affordable and pleasant to live a relatively free and happy life.  (and yes, I include myself in that group and I have been here the better part of 30 years).

Good infrastructure.   Affordable housing and food....and medical care.   And very nice people if you choose to live away from the "hot spots".   I say this and believe me my glasses are no longer rose colored  ????

But certainly, like anywhere,  Thailand is not for everyone.  I wish them well as they buy their tickets to greener pastures.

You have not answered my question, only by declaring in your imagination that you consider that Thai readers are readers outside of reality, including yourself. No one doubts that Thailand is still an acceptable country to live in but that the political situation is rapidly changing to our detriment, including the entire Thais people. Maybe time you open your eyes and stop dreaming

Clicking on the link at the head of that page gives you this - https://www.gov.uk/healthcare-immigration-application/how-much-pay

That mentions students on 2 year stays paying £600 so perhaps that's what I saw.

you are more than welcome to your opinion..... but adding "Maybe time you open your eyes and stop dreaming" to your post does not add anything .  Just shows what type of Farang you are.  The type that Thais are increasingly sick of dealing with .   Try being nice and treating others with respect as many on this forum do.

rumas's view is reality for many long time stayers, some who came here long before retirement and are now well integrated. That does not mean the the laws are good or that they are not becoming significantly more difficult, they are. But that is outweighed by the good things about living here, which some don't see.

I don’t think you understand indirect taxes - it is on everyday spending- have you not noticed the 7% sales tax on everything including services you buy? So the more you spend the more tax you pay.

Yes I understand but nowhere near the same amount as direct income tax. That is where the real money is. So a retired expat with 100,000/mnth pension doesn't necessarily spend 100,000 a month so the tax will be less than 7,000 a month.

A Thai person with a 100,000 monthly salary will pay 9,000 a month income tax plus 7% of what they spend which maybe the same as the retired expat.

Which is why the expat pays more at the hospital.

Thailand will lose more and more tourists, expats etc.

Because of their decadent, arrogant dual pricing.

Hopefully, It will go viral around the world and many

people change their destination to other countries.

Thailand needs a real lesson to learn:

Treat people equal!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is purely racist and nothing more than that. All of our respective countries should charge the Thai the same on the flip side, but then again our countries are more kind and consider all human beings the same. I would gather this decision comes from the private sector of the Elite rich Thai who are invested into the medical system and want to make money.

What next will come out of their brains for kicking us?

They don't care about expats and tourists are generally either not aware of dual pricing or are willing to pay, given they may only visit the country once. It's only expats that seem bothered by dual pricing - the ones without health isurance I might add!
