Hi folks, I hope you don't mind me starting a new topic for this, but the old Vista topics didn't seem to cover it.

I did a fresh install of Vista Ultimate yesterday and when I was done, I had no audio anymore. I've since tried to use the newest Realtek installer (which Vista won't let me use) and warious WDM and AC97 drivers. Does anyone have any other advice for me?

For the record, all the cables are plugged in properly :o There's even a little output meter associated with the volume control in Vista that shows activity. So, Visat thinks it's doing it all correctly, but I can't hear my Muzak!

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

BFD!

XP has a folder in Control Panel just for Sounds and Audio.

Have you checked Vista's equivalent control structure ?

Might just be a little check box in one of the windows.

Also, have you tried to play an mp3 or mpeg4 [wih audio]

in Windows media Player ?

You'll probably find it soon.

Thanks Paulfr, tried that already.

Vista's control panel is basically the same as XP's, so I verified that that wasn't the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion, though.

May you needt to install the driver in XP or even Win2000 compatibility mode

Just talked to an friend who has a old SoundBlaster 5 in 1 Card (6 years old) and Creative didn't support more. After setting the driver to Win2000 copatibility mode the card is working!

May you can do the same!?

Hi BFD,

If it's Realtek then Vista seems to have an intense dislike for it. I had the same drama with Vista and I was running Realtek High Definition Audio and then it just disappeared. I got the error that there was no Audio Device driver installed or maybe it was just no audio device installed...anyway that was rubbish as I hadn't changed a thing and it was still showing in the installed programs. The fix was to uninstall the Realtek driver through the device manager and then re-boot the machine. Windows then automatically added an audio driver agian on re-boot and I simply re-installed the Realtek drivers again and have had no problems since. It is a pretty common problem with Vista and any Realtek drivers. I had thought that Realtek had digitally signed their AC97 drivers now? They have certainly done so with the HD audio ones. It still should install on Vista anyway but you'll have to be patient and just keep telling it you want to install the unsigned driver if it asks (and it will if they're not digitally signed). Hope this helps you out. It freaked the crap out of me when it first happened as I couldn't understand what had gone wrong. Anyway let me know how you get on.

Cheers

Jimmy
