Thai Army buys eight attack choppers for Bt12 bn from US

The US has sold eight light attack helicopters and other military items for Bt12 billion to Thailand, according to a US government statement today.

 

Apart from the eight Boeing-made AH6I helicopters, the US$400-million deal also included ammunitions for their armament, such as 50 rounds of anti-tank AGM-114R guided Hellfire missiles, 200 rockets under Advance Precision Kill Weapon System and 70 rounds of non-guided Hydra. 

 

Ten sets of high-speed machine guns, and four sets of large-caliber heavy machine guns were also part of the sale.

 

Other items coming under deal were several sets of aerial radars, communication and navigation devices for the helicopters and 20 sets of night-vision goggles.

 

The statement, issued by Defence Security Cooperation Agency on behalf of US Department of Defence, said that the eight new helicopters would replace the seven ageing AH-1F Cobra attack helicopters in the Royal Thai Army fleet.

How to stay in power for ever in Thailand? make army happy and this is what has been happening with all the latest purchases.

do not worry, sooner than later they will park them on the air craft carrier that is useless.

maybe they will put a an ankle bracelet on the helicopter so they know where it is not!!

Don't ask the government for money otherwise he will be embarrassed.

I can see the Thai version of Zero Dark Thirty to fly into Dubai and arrest Thaksin.

But they keep on spending like a drunken sailor,

money that could be spent on hospitals,schools,

infrastructure ,so the electric isn't always going off.

In the first hour of a real war: All air bases bombed, air craft carrier sinking. Bye money, bye defence.
What a waste of money, they should have bought helicopters for save and rescue.

You forgot all military personnel hiding and negotiating with the invaders to maintain their status.

This kinda stuff is just a vindication of their "Paper Tiger" status. Attack who? Probably their own, as the Chinese are the only threat and they would steamroll SEA if they wanted.

At least they are buying a fairly modern attack/reconnaissance helicopter vs buying 20 years or older surplus military equipment which is normally what they do.

The Government of Thailand had requested to buy

eight (8) AH-6i light attack reconnaissance helicopters;

fifty (50) AGM-114R Hellfire missiles;

and two-hundred (200) Advance Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) Rockets.

 

Also included are ten (10) M134 Mini Guns,

ten (10) M260 Rocket Launchers;

ten (10) M299 Longbow Hellfire Launcher;

four (4) GAU-19/B .50 Cal Machine Gun;

five-hundred (500) Hydra 70 Rockets;

for some reason the first thing that came to mind when i read blue thunder is this. even though this is the magnum. blue thunder sounds like a contender.
