China is 28% of TOTAL revenue.

is the MOST any country. Is true.

Not in revenues actually made by REAL Thais it isn't. Primarily the sex and drug trade, daily/weekly gf pocket money and finally the neverending amount of fools who pump every cent they own into the ex missus local village, never to be seen again.

Revenue means absolutely nothing. Uber has billions of revenue every year, still zero profit.

Twitter is the same.

The only thing that counts is profit.

Profit for local thai workers and businesses.

Not profit for the chanel shop at the airport.

Real thais that earn real money from tourists... Like someone else here said 2 posts ago.

And for sure the amount of money i spend here is not in any of these statistic.... Cash is king for europeans.

Profit requires a growth economy and that is no longer sustainable so a new economic model has to be found that is sustainable instead.

Oddly enough the previous King of Thailand espoused a "sustainability' economy, based on need rather than profit......... many Thais already think on these lines. however it probably needs a more sophisticated approach to work on a world scale.

No, that is not what that chart says.

The Chinese spend the most baht per person per day, but Westerners tend to stay far longer, so, their total spend per vacation is higher.

Also, a substantial portion of what the Chinese spend goes straight back to China, as group tours tend to stick to Chinese-owned hotels, restaurants, fake temples, and shopping destinations.

It also does not include the significant amounts of money that Westerners, as more independent travelers, spend on things that are not captured by surveys of this type. That includes relationships, bars, and, yes, the sex industry. All that can add up to significantly more than all the types of spending that are captured.

These details are important if you want to understand why so many Thai businesses are reporting that their tourist customers have all but disappeared, while the government keeps proclaiming the highest tourism numbers of all time.

Thats true...most Chinese only stay for like 2-3 nights then they go on their way. At least in Hua Hin they do so.

I doubt that chinese tourist numbers will go up this year if the Bath stays that strong....! Mind you the Yuan did devaluate....aswell ,-)

Chinese tourists  stay around 8 days which is about half that of westerners, but spend about 25% more.

The Chinese government holds the Yuan at an artificially low exchange rate to give them an advantage with exports. If they stopped doing this the currency would leap in value, making Chinese tourists much wealthier

The first question is.....

How many of these 40 million tourists are transit tourist???

Then, how many tourist stay for how long and how much foreign currency do they really spend in Thailand.

Since, everybody do know, many hotel are only occupied by 20 to 30 %, brings me to the conclusion that the lost approx. 40 % of tourist moved and changed to another destination.

Thailand needs to improve a lot of things. Not just talk about some theory of 40 million tourists.
